About us

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in more than 500+ stores, with a passionate team of over 90,000 team members, 5 percent of our total net profits given back to our communities each year, and millions of customers who put their trust in us every day.

  • Happy #NationalVinegarMonth 🎉 In honor, we're revisiting this conversation between our Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer, Sonya Gafsi Oblisk, and Kosterina founder Katerina (Katina) Mountanos. In this episode, Katina — a certified olive oil sommelier — shares what actually makes olive oil exceptional, before pivoting to one of our Top 2026 Food Trends, "Very Vinegar," and what's exciting her about this new exploration of flavor and wellness. 🎧 Give this one a listen (or a re-listen!) via the link below or wherever you stream your podcasts. #BeyondTheBoard #VeryVinegar #TeamWFM

In the latest Beyond the Board episode, I sat down with Katerina (Katina) Mountanos, founder of Kosterina, to talk about what defines quality olive oil and how those details show up for customers in both taste and value. Katina built her brand around a clear point of view: how a product is grown, harvested, and handled matters. From early harvest timing to milling within hours, these aren’t just production choices — they directly impact flavor, nutritional integrity, and ultimately what a customer experiences at home. For me, this reinforces an important part of how we think about our role at Whole Foods Market. Our job isn’t just to put products on the shelf; it’s to do the work behind the scenes to ensure they meet our standards for quality, while also delivering a great product customers can trust. Katina’s story is a great example of what it looks like to stay disciplined on the fundamentals: clean ingredients, thoughtful sourcing, and a clear connection to purpose at scale. It’s a conversation that might just change how you think about olive oil the next time you reach for it. Listen to the full episode of Beyond the Board to learn more. https://lnkd.in/eaxCW7w3

21 food and beverage companies have partnered with Mad Agriculture in support of something we believe in: Wilding. Wilding is an innovative regenerative agriculture framework. It integrates native prairies, riparian buffers, and perennial plantings into working agricultural landscapes, starting with the acres already underperforming; rebuilding water quality, biodiversity, and soil health so the land that feeds us can also sustain the ecosystems it depends on. This illustration is the first glimpse of the Wild Grid: a living map of what reconnected American farmland could look like. Over the next three weeks, we will zoom out from the species and habitats that anchor it, to the regional corridors that connect them, to the full continental vision. Follow along as the picture grows. A 3-year pilot is launching now in Wisconsin's Driftless Region. If you want to understand the full vision, the White Paper is the place to start >> https://lnkd.in/ee4tWA-Z White paper written by Dan Kane and Omar de Kok-Mercado. What a beautiful way Matt Rodbard captured our sourcing trip to the Basque Country with our partners at Conservas Ortiz. He has a way of turning a sourcing trip into a story about purpose, culture, sustainability, and the people who bring it all to life. Proud to share this one with Julia Merid, Carrie Brownstein and Veronica Delia. 🎙️ 🎣 🛒 🌎 #teamwfm LISTEN: https://lnkd.in/eRnrtt94

    Editor in Chief, TASTE

We released a really fun episode today. We traveled to Ondarroa, a fishing port in the Basque Country of northern Spain, and followed a team of Whole Foods Market buyers and sourcing experts to find out how they interact with partners at the source—in this case, the legendary Spanish tinned seafood producer, Conservas Ortiz. It was fun to share the mic with AnaMaria Friede, MBA, Julia Merid, and Carrie Brownstein. Thanks to Veronica Delia at WFM. We covered some ground: ✔️ What does a Whole Foods buyer actually do, especially when meeting with partners in the field? 🛒🌎 ✔️ Who decides which olives go in the olive bar? 🫒 ✔️ Ortiz allowed us to record their tuna and anchovy production. Cameras and phones and zipped up, but not audio equipment. It’s a remarkable process. 🎣 ✔️ Sustainable seafood practices is lead by data. But what’s does that look like in a busy factory? 📊 LISTEN: https://lnkd.in/eRnrtt94

  • “The thing I love most about Whole Foods Market is the ability to carve your own path. I started my journey in 2021 as a Creative Resource Manager in Marketing Operations, and over time, I grew into a Senior Creative Resource Manager role. In my day-to-day, I make sure our creatives stay fulfilled and our project managers have the resources they need to achieve our marketing goals. On the side, I completed an 84-hour certification program to become a Sensory Panelist — which means I get to taste food and objectively describe it (yes, it's as cool as it sounds 🥳). Getting to combine my love of food with the bigger-picture work I do every day is incredibly rewarding, but my fellow Team Members are the main reason why I enjoy what I do. I love supporting our creatives, project managers, channel teams and program owners, and I'm excited for the future because there's truly never a dull moment at Whole Foods." — Sam Tran, Senior Creative Resource Manager #NourishPeople #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM

What happens to food that doesn't sell but is still perfectly good? At Whole Foods Market, it doesn't go to waste — it goes to work. Through Nourishing Our Neighborhoods, we fund refrigerated vans that pick up surplus food from our stores and deliver it to community food–rescue programs. That food becomes meals for our neighbors and their families. Each van has the capacity to: 🥬 Rescue 20,0000 lbs per week 🌍 Keep 1,040,000 lbs of food out of landfills each year 🍽️ Share the equivalent of 866,666 meals annually The program has since expanded to include mobile pantry events — free, farmers market–style distributions serving 700+ families. All of our Nourishing Our Neighborhoods partners are part of our Grocery Rescue Program with Food Donation Connection, matching local organizations for weekly pickups with all of our stores. None of this happens without our Team Members, partners and volunteers showing up. Together, we're building a more sustainable food system. #NourishGrowth #FoodWaste #CommunityImpact #TeamWFM

  • "My journey with Whole Foods Market began in 2016 on the Incident Management and Recall Team, where I gained comprehensive knowledge of our product assortment. In 2018, I joined the Quality Standards team, where I ensure that dietary supplement ingredients and products meet our rigorous standards. My work in dietary supplements recently led to an exciting milestone — I was elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), where I'm proud to be the only trustee representing retail. I look forward to serving alongside fellow trustees and contributing to AHPA's continued growth and impact. Whole Foods offers a wide variety of quality dietary supplements, and I consistently recommend our 365 brand private label products to friends and family. These products deliver exceptional value while maintaining the rigorous quality standards our customers expect. I'm proud to work with the private label team to consistently bring innovative, high-quality products to our shelves. I was drawn to Whole Foods because of our commitment to selling the highest quality natural and organic foods. My favorite aspect of our culture is seeing that commitment shared across our teams, all working toward meaningful goals. Whether it's ensuring high quality standards for our products, supporting more-sustainable practices or serving our customers with integrity, everyone here is united by a common purpose. This collective commitment creates an environment where collaboration thrives, and each person's contribution feels genuinely impactful. People may join Whole Foods Market for various reasons, but they stay because of the people they work alongside. I am deeply grateful to be surrounded by such brilliant, supportive and dedicated professionals.” — Kathy Wickenden, Program Manager II, Dietary Supplements #NourishPeople #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM

  • "Hello! I'm Stefano, and I'll be opening our new Whole Foods Market store in Wood Wharf at the end of the month. 🥳 When I joined Whole Foods, I was immediately fascinated by the passion our teams have for good, healthy and delicious food. Throughout my years in food retail, I've rarely seen that same level of genuine care for both product quality and people — it's something truly unique. I'm incredibly excited to open the Wood Wharf store. These past months have been especially energizing as we grow our London, U.K., presence from six to 12 stores, with Wood Wharf becoming our first location on the east side of the city. Situated in the heart of Canary Wharf — one of the busiest areas of the capital — the store will offer fresh and exciting lunch options for our customers, alongside a fantastic selection of our best Whole Foods Market products. What I’m most looking forward to is building a brand-new team. I can’t wait to start working with people from many different backgrounds and experiences, each bringing something unique to the table. Together, we're creating a store that hopefully will become a true landmark for the local community — and a great place to grow a career. See you at 4 Water Street, Wood Wharf, London, E14 5GX on May 28!" — Stefano Cirimele, Store Team Leader, Wood Wharf #NSO #WoodWharf #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM
