Today, that's changing.   With "Chat With History", the Amsterdam City Archive is no longer just a vault of documents, but a living, conversational gateway to the past. Powered by agentic AI and our built-in collaboration with the City of Amsterdam and Microsoft, this solution allows anyone to explore centuries of history simply by asking a question. In their own language.   By combining large-scale digitization, handwritten text recognition, and a robust multi-agent AI framework, we are removing barriers that once limited access to experts alone. The result is more than technological innovation - it's social impact. Stories once buried in old Dutch handwriting come alive again. A 16th-century merchant struggling with bureaucracy suddenly feels familiar. The archive becomes a shared space for curiosity, identity, and discovery.   As Amsterdam celebrates its 750-year anniversary, this project shows how AI can deepen our connection to history, not replace it.
