Octopus Energy Generation just put half a billion dollars into trees. Specifically, up to $500 million into reforestation projects turning degraded land previously used for coal mining, into forests - across Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, developed by California-based startup Living Carbon. 🌳 So why is this needed? AI data centres can run on a lot of gas and shifting entirely to renewables doesn't happen overnight. In the meantime, companies buy carbon credits to account for the gap, driving demand for high-quality credits. With this investment, Living Carbon goes from targeting 25,000 acres to 250,000. Ten times the scale. There were close to 250 different companies were buying carbon credits last year. The market is getting more diverse, which is what makes it more resilient. This is Octopus' second US nature-based investment as it also backs Cultivo. Both deals sit inside a $2 billion US investment target, funded through Octopus Energy Generation. That's the arm that channels capital from institutional investors (pension funds and the like) into clean energy. Not customer bills. Renewables are the priority - and electrifying as quick as possible. But the world doesn't run on them 100% just yet. That being said - 250,000 acres of new forest on degraded land is a great start. 🌱 The Wall Street Journal

Last week Octopus Energy NZ COO Margaret Cooney got to talk with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon about New Zealand's response to the global energy crisis and the massive opportunity to improve New Zealand’s productivity and prosperity by increasing electrification. About 95% of New Zealand’s electricity is renewable, and about 30% of energy use is electric, ditching expensive imported fossil fuels for an EV is a no brainer.

WOW - we were just named one of The Times Best Places to Work 2026 - our fourth year on the list. To celebrate, we did what all offices do on big occasions, and sent round a giant novelty card. Only a couple of accidental Happy Birthdays 🤞 An award like this is always about the people. At Octopus we're a load of like-minded, positive humans who want to make a big green dent in the world and do everything for customers. You can't plan a culture like this. It just sort of happens when you get a load of great people in one place and let them get on with it. So to every Octopus - past, present and future - a big thanks for making the vibe what it is, and congrats again! 🐙 And if it sounds like your sort of place to work, please have a look!! 👉 https://octo.ps/4uthfMh #TheSundayTimesBestPlacesToWork WorkL

Today, we launch the Big Octopus Driver Survey, a deep-dive collaboration between Octopus Electroverse and Autotrader Insight 🐙🚙🔌⚡️ 👉 https://lnkd.in/eTpB-e7v With over 11,500 drivers surveyed, this report compares fuel driver preconceptions with the realities of EV drivers, revealing a massive gap between assumption and experience. But as Matt Davies and Erin Baker highlight, the report finds that fuel driver concerns are often hypothetical, while the benefits are experiential. It’s a move from preconceived anxiety to what we call the 'EV Glow'. Ongoing joy that comes from the 'intangibles', the instant torque and performance, the silence of the cabin, and even the surprise of regenerative braking. The reality isn't just better than the myth, it’s fundamentally more fun. It’s time to close the gap between fear and what’s actually happening on our roads. 📊 Get the full insights by downloading the report! 👉 https://lnkd.in/eTpB-e7v

Greener homes and smarter energy systems don’t build themselves. Meet the 2026 OTP Award winners 🏆 We can't deliver solar, heat pumps and batteries at scale alone. So we work with brilliant installers across the country to go further than we ever could by ourselves. That's the Octopus Trusted Partners programme. Growing faster by the day. This week we celebrate the people making it happen. We were so proud we took out full page ads in the national press to shout about it (because a LinkedIn post wasn't enough!) Congrats to all the winners (especially iHeat taking home the Grand Tentacle Prize 🐙) These are the businesses on the frontline of Britain's energy transition. Proud to have them with us ⚡️ 🏆 Solar & Battery Installer of the Year - EE Renewables 🏆 Grand Tentacle Prize for Most Innovative Business - iHeat 🏆 Campaign of the Year - Gone Solar 🏆 Most Customer Focused Installer - Kevin Boyle @ ACC Renewable Energy Ltd. 🏆 Small Business of the Year - Stag Solar 🏆 Community Champion of the Year - SGS Energy 🏆 Cosy Installer of the Year - Greener Energy Group 🏆 Octopus Trusted Partner of the Year - ECO Providers

The boss of Britain's biggest energy supplier is telling the government to spend less money on energy... Hang on, what? There's a plan to upgrade Britain's electricity grid that's heading towards an enormous £70bn+ bill for consumers. The assumption baked into it is that the only way to get a clean power system to build loads more transmission lines. Greg Jackson’s point in The Telegraph is pretty simple: there's often smarter, cheaper alternatives. New technology can make far better use of the grid we already have. Grid-scale batteries and local flexibility can offer a faster cheaper alternative to building new wires. Network upgrade costs are already set to be the single biggest driver of household bill increases between now and 2030. Bills could be close to £2,000 this winter. The government's instinct is a targeted support package, and we get it. But fix the underlying cost first. Cut the waste from the programme, run a leaner system, and there's far less pressure for bailouts in the first place. Turns out the most effective support package is not wasting £70bn in the first place.

500,000 customers in 5 years in Japan - the world's largest competitive energy market. 🇬🇧 🇯🇵 Today, Octopus Energy was part of Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper's visit to Japan - where she held up our work with Tokyo Gas as 'an exemplar' of UK-Japan clean energy partnership. Our partnership with Tokyo Gas goes back to 2020, when we launched energy retailer TG Octopus Energy together and in 2023, Tokyo Gas became the first company in Japan to license the Kraken technology platform. Together we're showing what this kind of partnership can actually deliver: British clean energy technology, deployed at scale, making energy greener and more affordable for millions of Japanese homes. Half a million customers later, we can’t wait to see what comes next. Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office UK in Japan

People in Britain want energy security that doesn't depend on what's happening thousands of miles away. As the Middle East conflict continues to shake the world - people are asking us about solar, heat pumps and electric cars in record numbers. Solar sales up 54%. Heat pumps up 51%. EV leasing up 36%. Battery installations nearly doubled. Clean energy and electric tech are becoming the obvious choice for Britain: not just because it's the right thing for the planet. Because it makes financial sense, and the product is simply better. The Financial Times likened it this week to Americans swapping their Cadillacs for Fords in 1973 - and despite everything going on in the world right now, the point stands: people make smarter choices when the old ones stop making sense.
