“New postcodes, same world-class education” promises Alleyn’s, the elite independent school founded in 1619 in Dulwich, south London, when it announced it was expanding north of the river. It is opening two new schools — in Regent’s Park and Hampstead — possibly competing for the same families as neighbouring University College School, Channing, Highgate and Francis Holland schools. Jane Lunnon, the head of Alleyn’s who was born and grew up in north London, said heads of other schools in the area had been “extremely gracious” about the new competition. But her confidence that Alleyn’s will set itself apart seems well placed — the Regent’s Park school, which opens from September charging fees of £31,200, is oversubscribed

Weight-loss jabs could be given out for free at high street pharmacies as part of NHS efforts to tackle obesity. Junior doctors in England will ballot for strike action over pay, the British Medical Association (BMA) has announced. The union said that it had warned the government three weeks ago of the “consequences of the absence of a reasonable, timely pay offer”. The ballot will open on May 27 and close on July 7

The creative industry has rejected concessions offered by ministers to try and quell a growing revolt over its plans to reform copyright law. The government wants to allow AI companies to take copyrighted works to train their software without permission unless the owner opts out. The plans have been subjected to a consultation and the government is considering its response.
