Electricity networks are becoming real-time, data-driven systems powered by millions of connected devices. AI and flexibility are accelerating that shift. On the newest episode of #EnergyUnplugged, our very own Devrim Celal joins Aurora Energy Research’s Richard Howard to discuss what this means for grids, utilities and consumers. They cover: • Why distributed flexibility is becoming essential for renewable-heavy systems • How AI and device-level data could reshape network operations • The growing challenge of low-voltage grid visibility • How virtual power plants and automation are changing grid management As electrification accelerates, the industry is moving beyond centrally managed networks towards something far more dynamic - and far more flexible. 📹 Watch the full episode on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/evYZDbVc 🎧 Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/eXrxq2yz

🇺🇸 Great Place To Work® Certified™ in the US. This one means a lot. From day one, we’ve wanted Kraken to be the kind of place where people can do meaningful work without leaving their personality at the door. A place where smart people move fast. Where ideas get challenged. Where authenticity matters. And where having fun isn’t seen as a distraction from the mission. That culture shows up in how our teams work every day: 💜 We get stuff done Fast-moving teams. Real ownership. No fear of speaking up when something isn’t working. ⚡ We show up as ourselves The quirks stay. The personalities stay. The ambition stays. 🤝 We stay customer obsessed Because building good tech has to solve real problems for real people. 🌍 We give people autonomy Freedom to take risks, make decisions, and create impact at scale. Most importantly, this recognition belongs to our team. Thank you to everyone across Kraken for bringing the energy, honesty, and drive that make this place what it is.

What happens when flexibility becomes part of everyday energy management? For E.ON Next, it meant onboarding 12,000 assets in just nine months and turning residential flexibility into a core part of their way of acquiring new customers. Using Kraken, E.ON Next launched a smart charging proposition that helps customers lower bills while supporting a more flexible grid 🚗🔋 Read the entire case study to see how they scaled fast, kept customers engaged, and built flexibility into the heart of their business.

Big congratulations to our partners Octopus Energy, E.ON Next, and EDF (UK) for being named among the UK’s top companies to work for by The Times 🥳 We’re proud that Kraken powers three of the top 10. Behind every great energy company is a team making the complex feel simple for customers, colleagues, and the grid. That takes brilliant people, bold leadership, and the right technology ⚡️ To our partners at Octopus Energy, E.ON Next, and EDF UK: it’s brilliant to see your work recognized. Great teams deserve great tools. And we’re proud to help you keep raising the bar for energy customers. https://lnkd.in/ehr9Knps

Siloed data is the single biggest blocker to getting value from AI Our Global Head of Data Transformation, Kristy Mayer-Mejia, was recently featured on the Databricks blog discussing the reality of enterprise AI. At Kraken, we process billions of data points daily to manage over 90 million customer accounts and optimize the grid. We know firsthand that you can’t build cutting-edge AI on top of siloed, messy data. Unification isn't a nice-to-have; it's table stakes. In her interview, Kristy shares why solving the foundational data challenge is the ultimate unlock for the utility industry and beyond. A few key takeaways: • The "Analyst Bottleneck": Self-service analytics and rapid AI deployment are impossible until data is clean, unified, and accessible. • Data is a business asset: Tasking IT alone with "getting data ready for AI" is a mistake. Data needs deep business context to be useful. • Live Metadata: For AI to reason effectively, documentation must be embedded directly alongside the data. Read the full conversation to learn how Kraken and Databricks are partnering to help global utilities move from monthly reports to near-real-time decisions, unlocking the true power of their data. 👇 https://lnkd.in/enjnN_5t

⚡ It’s Half-time in the world cup final. Kettles go on. Grid’s under pressure. As Devrim Celal puts it: millions of people making a cup of tea at once creates a massive surge in demand. Now imagine that… but with EVs, heat pumps, and every low-carbon device switching on, every day 🚗🔥 That presents the energy system with a challenge - and a huge opportunity to leverage flexibility and unlock capacity. With real-time visibility, intelligent price signals and consumer-first products, we can shift load, ease congestion, use more renewables and keep people firmly in control 💜 The grid is changing. Flexibility is how we make it work. Below is an excerpt from the interview.

⚡ Utilities are using pricing to shape demand, not just recover costs. Time-of-use and dynamic rates can shift load, lower system costs, and support a more flexible grid overall. But legacy billing systems weren’t built for this level of complexity. And it’s slowing everything down – making it difficult to update rates, launch new ones or scale dynamic pricing models. Even with 80% of U.S. customers on smart meters, only ~10% are on time-varying rates. Modern billing platforms are changing what’s possible 🔌 Kraken’s customer platform is helping utilities roll out and adapt complex rate designs like crisis-response pricing and dynamic EV tariffs in weeks, not years. And if you want innovative rates, you need modern billing.

The grid is under pressure. ⚡ Aging infrastructure, rising demand from EVs and data centers, and more intermittent renewables are making reliability harder to maintain. Flexibility is quickly becoming one of the most effective tools utilities have. With the right software, everyday devices can support the grid at scale. 🚗 Shifting EV charging away from peak times ☀️ Balancing solar, batteries, and heat pumps 🔌 Reducing strain without new infrastructure The results speak for themselves. Kraken is helping to shift peak EV demand by 42% in the UK, saving £2bn in infrastructure and energy costs, while lowering bills for customers. And globally, we’re already flexing up to 4.2GWh of EV charging. A more reliable grid is already within reach 🌍

Kraken reposted this
A big milestone for Kraken in the US 🇺🇸. The first National Grid customer is now fully live on Kraken - less than 12 months from signing. On stage yesterday at #ClimaTech in Boston, National Grid President Lisa Wieland and myself were proud to talk about our thriving partnership and reveal that we are live in production, end-to-end, with the first early access customer. ⚡💪 This is one of America’s most important utilities, serving millions of customers across two heavily regulated states, now up and running (starting small) on Kraken’s AI- & data-driven operating system. Really grateful to the teams at National Grid and within Kraken for getting us here and the journey beyond🙏, very exciting. What makes this significant isn’t just the scale, it’s the repeatability of the Kraken model – proven around the world and now operational in the Northeast. Less than a year from contract to live production is unheard of in utility or any enterprise transformation. Traditionally, programs like this attempt a series of “big bang” replacements of multiple core systems – taking many years, endless glue-code, costing hundreds of millions, with each binary big-bang sub-system change putting the project at risk. We at Kraken chose a different path - methodology, end-to-end architecture, and technology - built around agility, scalability, and de-risking migrations. That approach came from deep energy specialization and expertise, and not being another generic software vendor. Build end-to-end. Start small. Prove it. Deliver fast – for utilities, consumers and the planet 🌎 That’s how a modern transformation and a great partnership should work 🚀
