I remember watching a scene from movie/TV show few years ago with following details:

  • It was a lab setup. There were few people in control room seeing a big robot across a glass wall. A scientist in astronaut suit was working on the robot.
  • The big robot was smooth and greyish silver. It was possibly alien in nature. That’s why humans were experimenting on it.
  • Suddenly, astronaut suit started to be devoured and then blood came out. The scientist wanted to come out of that chamber, but people in the control room didn’t let him come out. Instead, they burned him with full fire blast. It didn’t do anything to the robot.
  • Then, the glass started to be devoured. One person started to get out of the control room with his keycard, but a military personnel said, “Nobody leaves.”

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008).

A remake of the 1951 classic science fiction film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.

You've described a scene that occurs around 1 hour and 17 minutes into the movie.

A man in a hazmat suit is in a rocket silo-like chamber with a giant silver alien robot. Military officials are watching from another room through large glass windows.

Nano machines start devouring the man's hazmat suit. He tries to leave the chamber but the military officials won't allow it, and he collapses with blood seeping from his mouth and nostrils.

The military officials then notice the nano machines beginning to devour the glass windows. They flood the chamber with flames for several seconds, but the giant robot is undamaged. It then disperses into a huge swarm of nano machines that begin devouring the windows even faster.

One man tries to leave the observation room, but the soldier in charge says "no one leaves," apparently willing to sacrifice everyone in that room, including himself, in the hope that it will either prevent (or at least slow down) the spread of these nano machines.
