Last week I had an hour with a Year 4 class. The plan: introduce them to an Hour of AI coding activity in Microsoft MakeCode called AI Bug Arena. The problem: I couldn't just drop them straight into coding without context. They needed to understand what coding and AI actually are, plus clear expectations for how the session would run. I could've winged a quick explanation, but I had a better option: Kahoot!'s Micro Lesson format. A few weeks back I shared the 6 formats in Kahoot!'s AI generator. Micro Lesson is one of my favourites because it teaches and checks understanding in one sequence—perfect for introducing new concepts quickly. Here's the prompt I used, applying the 4C Framework I introduced earlier this term (Context, Content, Constraints, Clarity): Context: You are a Year 4 teacher in Australia. This lesson is a short introduction to coding as part of the Hour of AI challenge. Content: Students will engage with AI Bug Arena in Microsoft MakeCode where they'll code their own AI Bug using different algorithms. Link to the Digital Technologies Australian Curriculum at Year 3/4 level. Constraints: I want the micro lesson to orient students to basics of coding and AI, and set expectations (listen carefully, follow instructions one at a time). Clarity: Micro lesson format, skill level for Australian Year 4 students, around 10 slides/questions. The result? A scaffolded introduction that explained coding and AI in age-appropriate language, connected to curriculum, set behavioural expectations, and got students engaged through Kahoot!'s game mechanics. Less than 10 minutes later, they were ready for the coding challenge. No confusion. No wasted time. Watch the video below 👇 When to use Micro Lesson: Introducing new concepts before hands-on activities | Flipped classroom content students can work through independently | Relief lessons needing teaching and assessment in one | Quick revision with built-in checks The key difference: Quiz tests existing knowledge. Micro Lesson teaches first, then checks understanding. Different formats. Different pedagogical purposes. Have you used Micro Lesson format? Happy Monday from the K!rew! 😄 Last Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of MBA students from Yale School of Management right here in our Oslo office. 🏢 It was a fantastic afternoon of knowledge-sharing, fresh perspectives, and, of course, some healthy competition. 🏆 What went down: 🕵♀️ Deep Dive: We gave the students an inside look at our company history, our unique culture, and how our different group units work together to make learning awesome globally. 🙌 The Workshop: After our presentation and some good Norwegian waffles, the students rolled up their sleeves. We challenged them to think like K! Product Leads. 🎤 The Pitch: 8 groups presented brand-new business ideas for the Kahoot! ecosystem. Their presentations and discussions were impressive! A huge thank you to everyone who helped facilitate and shared our story. Christian Olsson Elizabeth Dionasari Kristoffer Hagen Sigurd Ringstad. This kind of events are always inspiring! 🌟
