Today marks our 1 week since we started implementing Seesaw Learning at the Mkhosana Adventist Primary School. This new journey has already begun transforming the way teaching and learning take place within our #MatterInnovationHub. Both teachers and students are embracing digital learning with enthusiasm, creativity and confidence. The introduction of Seesaw has created an interactive and collaborative learning environment where students are able to showcase their learning, reflect on their activities and engage more actively in lessons. Teachers and facilitators are now able to work together more effectively by sharing ideas, monitoring learner progress in real time and creating purposeful and meaningful learning experiences that support every child’s growth. What makes this initiative truly special is the strong connection it builds between the school and home. Parents can now become active partners in their children’s education by viewing class activities, celebrating achievements and communicating more closely with teachers. This partnership strengthens learner support and creates a community that works together to ensure every child succeeds. This is more than just introducing a new app - it is the beginning of a breakthrough in collaboration, communication and innovation in education. I had an inspiring start to the day witnessing Seesaw Learning in action at one of our MATTER ® Innovation Hub – Mkhosana. It was wonderful to see the Grade 2B teacher, Qaphelisa, actively engaging with learners as they explored the topic Shelter. The session beautifully reinforced concepts already introduced in the classroom, while making learning more interactive and enjoyable for the students. It’s exciting to see SeeSaw quickly becoming a favourite tool among both facilitators and teachers at the hub. A special thank you to Valeria Tschida for leading the workshop six weeks ago, that introduced our MIH facilitators to SeeSaw and empowered them to integrate it into their teaching and learning activities. Kudos to Purity Handiseni for working closely with teachers at Mkhosana Adventist Primary school to successfully kick off the rollout.

As I get ready for an online webinar tomorrow & heading to EduTech to work at the booth in June, this year celebrates 10 years of using Seesaw Learning in my teaching practice! I remember coming across it on twitter & seeing this bubbly & exciting teacher Angela Gadtke sharing about this tool that was life changing for the classroom. I zoomed into one of the PD in your PJ sessions, chatted that I lived in NZ and remember Angela being shocked but sent me my first (of many) seesaw tshirts! Since then I have presented & shared all about Seesaw in NZ wide conferences, in school PD, online webinars, COVID online craze, been a PD contractor as an official employee, worked the booth at EduTech for 2 years & even have their OG logo tattooed 🙈🩷 One of those tools that even after 10 years is one I’ll never not use! 🙌

Spent an amazing two days with the incredible curriculum + instructional technology leadership team at Arlington ISD, and one thing became very clear: Seesaw Learning is no longer viewed as “just another tool.” It’s becoming part of the district’s instructional foundation and woven into teaching and learning across classrooms.✨✨ A few highlights: 🧩 AISD teams are building weekly English + Spanish literacy playlists for K–3 students directly in Seesaw, bringing phonics, videos, responses to text, and activities into one streamlined space for teachers and students. 👪 Family engagement was another major theme. Leaders shared how powerful it is for families to actually SEE student learning happening and better understand grade-level expectations, literacy goals, and where students may need support. 🤖Seesaw AI continues to support instructional goals and save teachers time! One comment that really stayed with me: “When families can actually see the work, it changes the conversation.”💜💜 Grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside district leaders so committed to supporting teachers, students, and families in meaningful ways. 💛💛
