Here are some recent observations and experiences: - A VP Finance position in Paris is advertised with responsibilities spanning three roles, offering a salary of up to 80K...for full time. - I participated in five rounds of interviews with a large multinational without meeting anyone in person. After dedicating hours to a business case presentation, I was questioned about why the case did not align with their business. They provided the business case so....... There were still several interview rounds left. This is where I opted out. - A finance job requiring extensive leadership experience, with marketing and sales as a nice-to-have, with only 5 years of required experience. - Frequent emails from recruiters seeking urgent assistance, only to be ghosted afterward. It feels like many companies are unsure what they actually need, or are hoping one person can be CFO, controller, transformation lead, systems owner and fundraiser in one, at a discount. At the same time, leadership teams are cutting headcount and quietly betting AI will backfill the gaps. My question is: what does a sustainable model look like on the other side of this craziness? How are other senior finance leaders navigating job design, expectations and compensation in this environment?

Victoria Naugle vond dit interessantVictoria Naugle vond dit interessantI’ve been thinking a lot about AI lately — not just as a tool, but as another major workplace shift we’re learning to navigate. At FM, I served as a digital champion and participated in innovation focus groups exploring how multigenerational teams were approaching AI adoption. Over the past year, I began integrating AI more consistently in my work through brainstorming, research, summarizing notes and reviewing documents for both accuracy and cultural relevance. Recently, I also completed a short course on AI and the future of work, and one idea really stayed with me: AI is most valuable when it helps us focus more on the work that is uniquely human. It reminded me of my early days working in publishing during the transition from print to digital. At the time, there was real concern that technology would completely upend jobs. Instead, what actually happened was that the work evolved. We had to rethink workflows, learn new tools, and decide where technology could save time, while still relying on human judgment, creativity, and critical thinking where it mattered most. That feels very similar to where we are with AI today. One framework from the course broke work into three buckets: * BUCKET 1 : Tasks AI can do alone * BUCKET 2: Tasks we do with AI * BUCKET 3: Tasks that are uniquely human The second bucket stood out to me the most. Using AI as a collaborator to brainstorm ideas, identify patterns, organize information, or challenge assumptions, can create more space for the work that requires empathy, trust, leadership, communication, and decision-making. As someone who used to joke about how hard it was to be both a writer and an editor at the same time, I’ve found AI can actually help create that separation. It can offer perspective, suggest revisions, and help refine ideas, but it still needs a human lens to shape meaning and context. For me, the real opportunity with AI isn’t replacing people. It’s helping us spend more time in bucket 3. I’m curious how others are approaching this: What tasks are you comfortable handing to AI, and what work still feels deeply human to you?
