Today, we bring you the journey of Ritvika Rajkumar, Head of Consumer Lending. Ritvika reflects on her journey - "I started my career in the financial sector 15+ years ago. Launching a digital-only banking product in 2014 sparked my passion for payments and fintech; leading me through global payments, SaaS, and eventually, the fast-paced world of lending. Along the way I have had the opportunities to build businesses from 0 to 1, scale them from 1 to 10, and beyond. Two years ago, I joined PhonePe to start the consumer lending charter. The early days were intense it included shaping the product, finalizing program contours, deep-diving into discussions with lending partners, fine-tuning user journeys, rigorously testing integrations, building granular customer segmentation, activating communication channels, navigating negotiations, legal complexities and finally, launching. It was a massive cross-functional effort. Through it all, one mantra kept us going - build a sustainable lending program. We pushed forward, tweaking our approach, learning from every iteration, and staying true to our goal. The one constant was the electric energy of the entire team. We were collaborative, relentless, and deeply passionate; operating like business owners, not just employees. The passion here is unreal, it pushes you to outdo yourself, and keeps you growing. Early on, I focused on improving execution through targeted quality strategies. That work built trust not just within the team, but also with leadership. As a result, I got the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities, expanding my scope to lead the Users and P2P pods as well. I encouraged the team to explore QA automation and tooling solutions for complex problems. This initiative not only enhanced QA efficiency but also facilitated adoption by the development team—leading to improved performance across several sub-pods and ultimately accelerating deliverables. Beyond the technical opportunities and milestones, what truly shaped my journey were the people I worked with. Learning from the inspiring women in my team - Pooja Gulrajani, Nidhi Gupta, yashasvini ks, Apurva Sharma and Atusha Khandelwal has been a huge motivator. Their support and openness to share their experiences helped me grow stronger in my own approach and decisions. PhonePe goes live with UPI Circle, allowing its users to create a circle and make payments on behalf of their family, friends or trusted contacts. UPI Circle enables dependents to generate their own UPI ID without needing a linked bank account, opening up secure online payment solutions for those with limited access to digital financial services. Speaking on the feature launch, Sonika Chandra, Chief Business Officer, Consumer Payments, PhonePe said, “UPI Circle is a significant step forward in extending the ease and convenience of digital payments for those who are underbanked and those new to the ecosystem. This can be a parent providing expenses to their college kids, authorizing payments on behalf of older parents who may be wary of digital payments or busy individuals who want to delegate household chores."
