Apple today sent out invites for an experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, and the "Pro and tell" tagline on the invitation likely means that the rumored MacBook models with touch-enabled OLED displays will stick with MacBook Pro branding instead of the once-rumored "MacBook Ultra" name.

The long-rumored "iPhone Ultra" ended up being named iPhone Duo, so speculation that Apple would expand its lineup of "Ultra" products this year was off the mark.

All of these enormous discounts on the current MBPs should have told people they were being replaced in the lineup.

We'll see if the 'it has 1 year old CPU' rumors are true next week too. I believe the memory ceiling will be raised at minimum, and possibly we'll get Pro and Max, Gurman be damned, but time will tell.

The reason there is no ultra name is that when you look at the processors going from Pro > Max > Ultra there is no compromise and Max is better in every single way than Pro and Ultra is better in every single way than Max. For a MacBook with Touch or iPhone with foldable display there are compromises. It isn’t better in every single way.

MacBook Pro ultra?
MacBook ultra pro?

I think it’s still possible.

I think they'll just begin to phase the entire MacBookPro line to this display to help differentiate it from the lower tier MacBooks.

It'll probably be something with MacBookPro with Multi Touch™ support and eventually all MacBooks Pro will have this display. No special branding, it just is what you expect from a MacBookPro.

Nobody really knows the specs of this new Macbook Pro -- the public is/was calling it Ultra, etc., so this sounds like disappointment that the Ultra word isn't used -- but it says nothing about the specifications we're about to see. We will find out, shortly ;-)

If a touch Macbook Pro is the only option moving forward, I don't think I will ever buy a Macbook Pro laptop again.
Why? unless they jack the price up or whatever you dont have to use it. Its like the iPad people that cried and screamed when Apple added mouse support "APPS WONT BE TOUCH FRIENDLY ANYMORE" turned out to be complete rubbish.
