Yesterday, we officially kicked off CHAMP-ION in Villach – and what a start it was. 👏🏼 With around 150 guests from industry, research, politics and innovation ecosystems across Europe, the opening event brought together leading minds united by one shared vision: building a strong European value chain for scalable quantum technologies. Europe’s new ion-trap pilot CHAMP-ION is more than just a research initiative — it is a groundbreaking step toward industrial-scale quantum chip manufacturing and a major contribution to Europe’s technological sovereignty. Coordinated by SAL, the project is supported by the European Union’s Chips Joint Undertaking, Horizon Europe and national public authorities, bringing together 21 partners from across Europe to help move ion-trap technologies from laboratory prototypes to industrial production. The event featured inspiring contributions and discussions from distinguished speakers including Christina Hirschl, Peter Hanke, Petra Oberrauner, Michael Wiesmüller, Sabine E. Herlitschka, Mohssen Moridi, Olivier Ezratty, Thomas Monz, Jean-Christophe ELOY, Klaus Grössinger, and Sarah Hedden, while Isabella Preuer guided the audience throughout the day. A heartfelt thank you to all partners contributing to this ambitious initiative: Infineon Technologies Austria AG, Infineon Technologies AG, Infineon Technologies Dresden AG & Co. KG, AQT, ParityQC, eleQtron, neQxt GmbH, QUDORA Technologies, VTT, INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, Universität Innsbruck, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, Universität Siegen, Leibniz Universität Hannover, Università degli Studi di Padova, Palacký University Olomouc, Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS, Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB, INRiM - Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica and AMIRES. We're happy to contribute to the future of quantum technology in Europe. 🤝🏼 Photos by Sarina Dobernig #quantumtechnology #quantumcomputing #iontrap #semiconductors #CHAMPION #research #microelectronics #europe
