The research project MTSS-K sets out to challenge the status quo by using the most rigorous scientific methods to promote a new effective and efficient education model in Europe. The Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) approach is an early intervention framework that has been established in the North American education systems for nearly two decades with the aim to increase equity and inclusion by improving education outcomes for all students, yet especially for the most vulnerable ones.

✨ Supporting children early matters – and new findings from #MTSSK highlight that potential. 📚 Earlier this month, at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in Los Angeles, California, MTSS-K team member Marta Pellegrini presented results from our meta-analysis on the effects of the MTSS approach on early literacy and numeracy outcomes. The findings show that MTSS can have a positive impact on children’s early learning, and that for literacy in particular, highly qualified tutors were linked to better outcomes. Great to be in sunny Lausanne for our second #MTSSK progress meeting! ☀️ After a first day of discussions, we’ve made progress across the different work packages, exchanged on school interventions targeting the social, emotional and behavioural (SEB) development of kindergarten children, and reviewed ongoing data analyses. Il y a un an, j’ai posé mes premiers pas à University of Luxembourg pour commencer mon doctorat dans le cadre du projet MTSS-K. Je me souviens encore de ce mélange d’excitation et de vertige : celui qu’on ressent quand on ouvre une porte dont on ne connaît pas encore tous les chemins… Depuis, chaque journée a été une exploration. J’ai plongé dans les sciences de l’éducation, confronté mes lectures aux réalités du terrain, remis en question mes idées, corrigé, recommencé, amélioré. Et parfois, au milieu de tout ça, j’ai eu l’impression de me redécouvrir moi-même. Guidée par mon superviseur Christophe Dierendonck, j’explore, je développe, je corrige, je me réinvente… et surtout, j’apprends énormément. J’ai également la chance de travailler aux côtés de collègues européens issus de cultures et de parcours variés, ce qui enrichit profondément mon expérience et nourrit ma motivation à aller toujours plus loin. Aujourd’hui, je me sens un pas plus proche de mon objectif. Curieuse de la suite. Motivée pour continuer à découvrir et me découvrir. Et prête pour les prochains chapitres de cette aventure…

Kicking off 2026 at the ADMEE Europe Conference! 🚀✨ This week, #MTSSK started the new year by presenting its evidence-based approach to strengthening early childhood education at HEP BEJUNE in Bienne, Switzerland. On #WorldChildrensDay, we highlight every child’s right to a fair and inclusive education that paves the way for an equitable future. 🎓🌍 #MTSSK puts this principle into action – based on the belief that early and targeted support helps every child thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By applying the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) approach in kindergartens across Europe, the project aims to equip teachers to respond to diverse learning needs from the very beginning.
