Delighted to meet Minister Darragh O'Brien TD, Philip Nugent, Timmy Dooley and the team at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment yesterday for a valuable discussion on Ireland’s preparations for its incoming Presidency of the Council of the EU. At a pivotal moment for Europe’s climate, energy and competitiveness agenda, it was encouraging to exchange views on key policy files that will help shape the years ahead, including the EU ETS, electrification, industrial competitiveness, circular economy, and energy efficiency and security. We particularly welcomed the strong emphasis on collaboration between government and business in delivering ambitious yet practical outcomes for Europe’s transition. Stable, coherent and predictable policy frameworks will be essential to unlocking investment, accelerating implementation and strengthening resilience across the EU. Thank you to Minister Darragh O'Brien TD, Philip Nugent, and the wider team for the very warm welcome and for such an engaging and forward-looking discussion. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with the Irish Presidency in the months ahead. Great to meet the Corporate Leaders Group at my Department yesterday for a really valuable discussion on Ireland’s preparations for our Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026. We discussed some of the major climate, energy and environment files that will shape the Presidency agenda — including ETS, the Grids Package and the Circular Economy Act. Ireland’s Presidency comes at a pivotal moment for EU climate and energy policy. The years ahead will be critical for delivering the clean energy transition, strengthening competitiveness and building a more sustainable and resilient economy across Europe and our Presidency will be right at the heart of this - a wonderful opportunity for our country to lead with purpose and integrity. It was particularly useful to hear the perspectives of CLG members on the challenges and opportunities ahead, and on how government and business can work together to deliver ambitious and practical outcomes. Thanks to everyone who participated in such an engaging and forward-looking discussion.
