Collaboration and competitiveness were in focus when the Bruzaholm wind farm was inaugurated on 20 May. Representatives from industry, the local community and the energy sector gathered to mark an important step in expanding fossil-free electricity production in southern Sweden. By combining wind power with battery storage, the facility strengthens electricity supply for both households and businesses – and contributes to increased flexibility and competitiveness. A key part of the set‑up is the long-term agreement with Volvo Group, which will purchase half of the electricity produced. During the inauguration, Anna Borg, CEO of Vattenfall, highlighted the importance of collaboration: “This project is a very concrete example of how close collaboration between the municipality, local stakeholders, industry and us as an energy company makes this type of project possible. This is how we accelerate the transition.” The wind farm is now fully operational, helping meet growing electricity demand in the region. Cement is one of the world’s most widely used construction materials – but also one of the largest sources of emissions. That insight marked the starting point for Swedish company Cemvision, aiming to transform a deeply entrenched industry from the ground up. Today, the company’s limestone‑free cement is used both in test environments and in real industrial projects.

The latest Fortune list of the world's most powerful women in business is here. Now in its 29th year, the Fortune Most Powerful Women list highlights the leaders commanding boardrooms, markets, and industries. This list tracks not just who has an impressive title, but what they are doing with it, with hard business metrics to back that up. We are proud to see that Anna Borg, CEO of Vattenfall, has earned a respectful 34th place on this prestigious list. From Fortune: “Anna Borg has run Vattenfall, the Swedish state-owned energy giant, since 2020, climbing the ranks to become CFO before taking the top role. As CEO, she’s undertaken an ambitious clean energy transformation. In 2025, Vattenfall’s underlying operating profit rose year over year on the strength of improved price hedging and stronger nuclear operations, even as full-year profits declined to roughly $2 billion, owing in part to one-off asset sales the year prior. The more consequential story is the investment pipeline she is building: From 2026 through 2030, Vattenfall plans to deploy approximately $17.7 billion in capital, with much of it earmarked for new wind power projects, a resilient grid, EV infrastructure, hydropower initiatives, and nuclear power. She has simultaneously delivered one of the most credible emissions records in the industry: Vattenfall has cut emissions 56% since 2017 and has completely phased out coal from its operations.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/dkYzsFtf

Europe helped shape the early direction of the energy transition. Today, the question is whether it can maintain that position as competition intensifies and the geopolitical stakes grow higher. European companies are being challenged to move faster while reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, raw materials and technology. At the same time, policymakers face growing pressure to balance competitiveness, affordability and long-term climate targets. In this issue of THE EDIT, we explore the role of emissions trading in driving investment confidence, as well as efforts to rebuild heavy industries with significantly lower emissions. What are your thoughts on the energy transition? Special thanks to Anders Berger, Erik Filipsson, Oscar Hållén, Claes Kollberg and Cemvision. #Vattenfall #theedit #newsletter #sustainability #goodnews #positivenews

When constructing the large ground-mounted solar park “Juliusburg/Krukow” in Schleswig-Holstein, Vattenfall is breaking new ground by using low emission steel from its Swedish partner SSAB for the PV mounting systems for the first time. This reduces CO₂ emissions in the construction and supply chain by 67 per cent compared with conventional steel. It marks another step by the company to support the decarbonisation of the industry and help drive society forward. - The electricity generated from this solar farm will help reduce Germany’s dependence on imported fossil fuels. But for us fossil freedom does not end with electricity generation – it starts right at the beginning of the supply chain. That is why we are pleased to take this pioneering step together with our partner SSAB, using low emission steel for the substructures. By leading the way as a company, we support the long-term societal goal of becoming fossil free, says Claus Wattendrup, Head of Solar & Batteries at Vattenfall. Today we announced a new long-term renewable power purchase agreement in Norway between Vattenfall and Nscale. The agreement covers a significant part of the electricity needed for 2027–2031 at Nscales site in Kvandal in northern Norway and reflects the growing demand for renewable electricity from AI and digital infrastructure sectors. https://lnkd.in/dhgyqTFP #fossilfree #Vattenfall #Nscale

At our new wind farm in Southern Sweden, Bruzaholm, much of the emissions reduction happens before the turbines are even spinning. Building the foundations, we used a concrete mix emitting around 212 kg CO₂ per m³, compared to roughly 270 kg CO₂ per m³ for conventional concrete. By optimising both the mix and the design, we also reduced the total volume needed. We powered machinery and transport with HVO100, a renewable bio-diesel, and used recycled plastic for cable ducts and foundations. The materials in the energy infrastructure – steel, cement and foundations – account for a significant share of our climate impact, so they must be part of the transition. This is an important step to show there’s a way towards a society where it’s possible to move, make and live fossil free. Today, Vattenfall inaugurates the Bruzaholm wind farm – new fossil free electricity production for households and businesses in southern Sweden. Bruzaholm, located in Eksjö municipality, began construction in the summer of 2023 and is now fully operational. The wind farm has an output of 139 MW and with an annual production of 460GWh. To link supply and demand, Vattenfall has signed a ten-year agreement with Volvo Group, which buys half of Bruzaholm's electricity production. “We are proud to be able to inaugurate Bruzaholm Wind Farm today. Through Bruzaholm's wind farm and the agreement with Volvo, we can now add more electricity production and storage capacity in southern Sweden, where demand is greatest. The fact that the government has ensured that the municipality gets a share of the property tax generated by the park is very positive," says Vattenfall's CEO Anna Borg. The Clashindarroch wind farm has been generating renewable electricity since 2015. Over the same period, it has delivered more than £2 million for local communities in Aberdeenshire in Scotland, through its Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund. More than 180 projects have received support – from youth groups and mental health initiatives to local schools and sports clubs. One example is No. 30 in Huntly, a former derelict building now reopened as a community-owned space with a 60-seat cinema, co-working areas, café, gallery and retail space. This is part of our broader commitment to drive the transition to fossil free living while supporting projects and organisations in the communities where we operate.
