Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 goes wide, Fold8 Ultra aims for the foldable crown
Samsung describes the new Galaxy Z series as “its most complete lineup yet,” suggesting that something was missing until now. And that something is the wide foldable that will be known simply as the Galaxy Z Fold8. It’s important to note that this is not the successor to the Z Fold7 – that would be the Z Fold8 Ultra instead.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 splits the difference between the Flip and the original Fold form factors. The Z Flip8 has a 4.1” cover display, the Z Fold8 a 5.5” one and the Z Fold8 Ultra is the biggest at 6.5”.
When closed, the Z Fold8 is almost a throwback – a portrait 5.5” display with a 10:16 aspect ratio feels like the mini phones that no longer exist. It’s quite wide at 81.9mm, but the top of its screen is easily reachable as the phone is only 123.9mm tall. It measures 9.7mm thick when folded and weighs 201g. In landscape orientation, you get a 16:10 aspect ratio that is common on laptops and tablets (e.g. Tab S11 Ultra) and is well-suited for watching videos and gaming too.
When opened, the Z Fold8 offers a 4:3 7.6” display. This is a perfect match for photos, which default to 4:3, and it is also very well suited for text-based uses like reading documents, books or text-heavy websites.
Here are a few more details on the displays themselves. The cover panel is an LTPO OLED (1-120Hz) with 1,248 x 1,972px resolution. The inner display is another LTPO OLED panel (1-120Hz) with 1,848 x 2,448px. This one can reach 3,000 nits and has a low-reflection coating. Both have very similar pixel densities, 428ppi and 403ppi, respectively.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 promises the best of both worlds – a 3:4 display is great for reading documents, books and text-heavy sites, while the 16:10 display is great for videos, gaming and scrolling through social media.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy that we’ve already seen with the Galaxy S26 series. It’s paired with 12GB of RAM on the 256GB and 512GB models and 16GB on the 1TB model.
The phone runs on a 4,800mAh Si/C battery – that’s bigger than the 4,400mAh battery of the Z Fold7. It supports 45W charging (63% in 30 minutes) and 20W wireless charging (with reverse wireless charging).
The camera setup is closer to the Z Flip than to the Z Fold Ultra. It has a 50MP main sensor (1.0µm pixels) with an f/1.8 lens, OIS and 2x in-sensor zoom. The ultra-wide camera also has a 50MP sensor (0.7µm pixels) and an f/1.9 120° lens. There are two 10MP selfie cameras (1.12µm pixels, f/2.2). The one on the cover display has an 85° lens, while the one inside has a wider 100° lens.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra places Samsung’s big book-style foldable in the same category as the S26 Ultra. And yes, the “Ultra” tag comes with a focus on camera hardware. The phone boasts a 200MP main (0.6µm pixels, f/1.7, OIS) with enhanced HDR capabilities. It can record 8K video with the APV codec and lets you use Cine LUTs directly on the phone.

It upgrades the ultra-wide camera with a new 50MP sensor (0.7µm, f/1.9, 120° FoV) that captures sharper landscape photos and can get up close for macro photography.
The telephoto camera is unfortunately stuck in the past with a 10MP sensor (1.0µm) and a 3x f/2.4 lens with OIS. There are also two 10MP selfie cameras – one on the cover display with an 85° lens and one inside with a wider 100° lens (both have 1.12µm pixel size and f/2.2 apertures).

Like its sibling above, the Ultra will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy across all markets. The chipset now benefits from an expanded graphite sheet to spread out heat more effectively. The phone is configured with 12GB of RAM on the 256GB and 512GB models and 16GB on the 1TB model.
Like its predecessor (the Z Fold7), the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra measures 72.8mm wide and 8.9mm thick when closed. It’s a tad slimmer when opened, now measuring 4.1mm. It weighs the same as before at 215g.
These measurements conceal an important upgrade – the battery capacity has grown to 5,000mAh, a nearly 14% increase over the 4,400mAh battery of the 2025 model. These are the first Samsung phones with Silicon-Carbon (Si-C) batteries.
Another key upgrade is the support for faster 45W charging (up from 25W), which gets the phone up to 67% charge in 30 minutes. Wireless charging has also been bumped up and it now does 20W (it also offers reverse wireless charging). Samsung flaunts a “new dual-path charging architecture”, though we’re not sure quite what that is – but we will be putting it to the test.

Both the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra launch with Android 17 and One UI 9. They have Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 support. The phones are rated IP48 for dust and water resistance. The Ultra can be had in Graphite, Cream and Violet Shadow. Samsung.com’s exclusive fourth color is called Green Shadow.
A major change this generation is the Flex Titanium technology, which combines a titanium-alloy film with an enhanced titanium plate. This strengthens the display and helps it absorb impact and pressure, while making it more resilient to the wear that forms the crease in the middle. The refined hinge design makes opening the phone feel smoother and lighter.
