Pink Poop 69, 13 Nov 2025I think ZTE, the company which makes this phone should charge more for this phone and then imp... moreFirst of all, if it was so easy everyone would be doing it, don't you think? Think of all the components inside a modern smartphone, it already borders on black magic territory, putting bigger sensors in also means bigger lenses, and at that point you're making a DSLR camera that runs android.
I also don't think the sensors are the reason nubia falls behind some other 'cameraphones', looking at the ISO and exposure values of the pictures taken by gsmarena and the way detail is rendered, it looks more like a post-processing issue to me. It may look simole, but developing *really* good software takes more resources than chucking a better piece of hardware inside.
I think ZTE, the company which makes this phone should charge more for this phone and then improve the cameras for the extra price. Instead of charging €650 they can charge €1000 and at that price they can make the best cameraphone on the planet with huge sensors. The only thing that is not flagship grade in this phone are the cameras so I think ZTE should compete with the big dawgs in market and make their own full fledged flagship phone.

The price is quite low and it looks cheap compared to a Oneplus phone and even those ones are getting downgraded now. Simply, this is the best you can get at this price.
Let's say you get some other phone, it's going to have some other issue that'll make you want to change. Or you get something more expensive like the X300 Pro or S26 Ultra, you'd basically be able to get another Z Ultra phone at those prices!
JopaJuve, 12 Nov 2025Well I just contacted them again a few hours a go about the updates. This was their reply:

Software is always where ZTE is lacking because it cost money. First half year you get 1 update each month after that its will be 2 months and longer. ( We won't forgive what they did with the RM 8 / ZTE Z60 or 50 it was abandoning the phone more then a half years after 3 updates).
I'm glad that my first and my current Z Ultra model is a Z60U. I think I'm keeping this until Nubia decides to put LTPO OLED, then put OIS back to Ultrawide.

Looks like Z60Ultra is still the goat with that OIS on the UW
Well I just contacted them again a few hours a go about the updates. This was their reply:
"We appreciate your prompt reply.
We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused by our earlier response.
We confirm that the nubia Z80 Ultra sold in the EU receive a minimum of 5 years of update cycle."
It looks like that everyone who bought nubia is going to get 5 years of updates. Yeey!
Anonymous, 12 Nov 2025How good is Nubias OS compared to Xiaoimi? If anyone here has tried both which would you go for? Never used a Nubia before, this is from binge-watching reviews the last few days: except the obviously sponsored "oMg BeST pHoNE eVeR!!11" reviews, they all pretty much say "very similar to stock android, not much custom nubia stuff except an AI translator for calls and conversations, a few terrible translations scattered in the interface, especially in the camera app"

Found on reddit, posted from a user who contacted their support regarding the updates in Europe.
"Dear Customer, Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, we comply with the EU regulation requiring that smartphones sold in the European market receive at least five years of software updates. As France is part of this market, devices sold there will also receive five years of software support from the date of their official EU release. Best Regards, The nubia Support Team"
P.S. According to the regulation, it should be five years starting from the end of sale, not the release, but I guess one step at a time haha

We have so many manufacturers making great phones for great prices but the lack of software support is a dealbreaker. Minimum 2-3 years would be respectable but 1 year is unacceptable at a phone for this price point, even if it's a banger

I actually don't want a punch hole or visible camera on the screen as I almost never use the selfie camera. That said, I want this but in a smaller form factor. Otherwise, this is fantastic to me!

I don't care much about the OS updates but I do care about the security ones, and the new EU laws are the main reason I bought a z80 instead of older cheaper alternatives; I will open a controversy on paypal asking for a refund if they ever stop updating before the five years period is over.

What do they mean by saying 3 years of updates? Does that mean that their phone is going to get android 19?
