Introduction

There are quite a few Redmi Note 15 models. Today, we are looking at the Redmi Note 15 5G (no Pro moniker).

The Redmi Note 15 5G looks like its siblings and thus does not deviate in any major way from the recent Xiaomi formula. Not a lot has changed in the hardware department either. Xiaomi seemingly doesn't want to rock the boat too much, which is a good indicator that sales are likely strong for the series in general.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 specs at a glance:

  • Body: 164.0x75.4x7.4mm, 178g; Glass front, plastic frame, plastic back; IP66 dust tight and water resistant (high pressure water jets), Drop resistant up to 1.7m, MIL-STD-810H compliant.
  • Display: 6.77" AMOLED, 68B colors, 120Hz, 3840Hz PWM, HDR10+, 800 nits (typ), 3200 nits (peak), 1080x2392px resolution, 19.93:9 aspect ratio, 388ppi.
  • Chipset: Qualcomm SM6475-AB Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 (4 nm): Octa-core (4x2.4 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A55); Adreno 710.
  • Memory: 128GB 6GB RAM, 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM, 512GB 8GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM; UFS 2.2; microSDXC (uses shared SIM slot).
  • OS/Software: Android 15, up to 4 major Android upgrades, HyperOS 2.
  • Rear camera: Wide (main): 108 MP, f/1.7, 24mm, 1/1.67", 0.64µm, PDAF, OIS; Ultra wide angle: 8 MP, f/2.2, 16mm, 1/4.0", 1.12µm.
  • Front camera: 20 MP, f/2.2, 21mm (wide), 1/4.0".
  • Video capture: Rear camera: 4K@30fps, 1080p@30fps, gyro-EIS, OIS; Front camera: 1080p@30fps.
  • Battery: 5520mAh; 45W wired, 18W reverse wired.
  • Connectivity: 5G; Wi-Fi 5; BT 5.1 or 5.3; NFC; Infrared port.
  • Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, optical); stereo speakers (with Dolby Atmos); Virtual proximity sensing.

Frankly, we're having a bit of trouble accurately placing the Redmi Note 15 5G within the current lineup. Despite the lack of a "Pro" moniker, it definitely seems to sit above the Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G with a better chipset, notably capable of 4K video capture and a better display, certified for HDR10+. You do have to live with a smaller battery, but that seems to be the only real tradeoff. As for the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, it seems to have the Redmi Note 15 5G beat in most aspects, but then again, it is a notably more expensive device.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 review

Overall, the Redmi Note 15 5G looks like a good "sweet spot" within the Redmi Note 15 family. Of course, the devil is in the details, which we will go through as per usual, but on the surface, it appears to have all of its bases well covered.

It offers impressive durability, a spacious and bright, HDR-capable display, and a decent Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset that does not suffer from the obvious limitations in the MediaTek Helio G200 Ultra, powering the Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G. There is expandable storage, the camera setup looks solid, even if not particularly impressive and at 5520 mAh, the battery pack still offers decent capacity. However, it is probably the weakest link in the chain here. We'll just have to see.

Unboxing

The Redmi Note 15 5G doesn't deviate from the established Redmi packaging. It comes in a familiar white box with red accents. It is a two-piece thick cardboard box that offers plenty of protection during transit. At the same time, there is no plastic in the packaging in sight, except for a thin bag, which is quite eco-friendly.

The included accessory package is quite lavish, especially by modern standards. That said, due to EU regulations, those markets do not get a charger in the box. Still, some areas do get a free Xiaomi 45W wall plug that can saturate the fast-charging speed of the Redmi Note 15 5G fully.

Beyond the charger, everyone gets a nice 5A USB Type-A to Type-C cable that is proprietary with an extra pin, just like the charger. Make sure not to lose it. Also in the box is a nice, thick, grey, soft TPU case.

Samsung is solid but their OLED technology sucks. Why can't they make a good Samsung phone with IPS LCD display?
