Weekly poll Motorola

With the controversy over its software update policy now all but cleared, the Motorola Edge 70 Max stands out as a rather intriguing device – it has the most powerful chipset of the Edge 70 series, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, compared to Snapdragon 7 and Dimensity 8 series chips in the other phones. Its 7,100mAh battery dwarfs even the Pro/Pro+, which has a 6,500mAh battery, making this the biggest battery in the series.

The 90W wired charging sure is nice too – even better is the 25W wireless charging with proper Qi 2.2 support, magnets and all. That is something that very few Android makers offer and on very few devices at that.

The screen is the best in the family too - a 6.82” OLED with 1440p+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate, plus it’s the only LTPO panel in the series so far. It’s bright too, with an advertised peak brightness of 7,000 nits.

The phone has an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 7i panels on the front and back, plus IP68 and IP69 ratings. What’s not to like? Well, it doesn’t have a microSD slot or a 3.5mm headphone jack (we can sense you thinking it).

Also, the camera is pretty basic with a 50MP main, an 8MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie module. It’s not a bad camera, the main sensor is 1/1.56” and can record 4K video at 60fps. However, given the asking price, it’s not unreasonable to expect more. Speaking of which, check out the table below:

UK £700 -
EU €800 -
India ₹55,000 ₹60,000

We should note that in Europe, the Max comes with a free pair of Moto Buds Loop and a charger (90W or 125W, depending on the region). This is something to keep in mind when considering the price.

For alternatives, we can look at the Motorola Edge 70 Pro, which launched at €800/£750. While its Dimensity 8500 Extreme is no match for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, it’s one of the fastest mid-range chips around. The Pro has a 50MP 3.5x/81mm telephoto camera and an upgraded 50MP ultra-wide. Its battery has 6,500mAh capacity and supports 90W wired and 15W wireless (non-magnetic) charging. There’s also the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+, which is the regional variant of the Pro for the Indian market – this one starts at ₹48,000.

So, how do you feel about the Motorola Edge 70 Max?

I'm not buying any phones unless I absolutely have to. The ram apocalypse destroyed your whole market. Your consumers know that we're paying almost 100% more for a phone now. They're going to charge us 800 to 1200 for a 8gb ram phone w...
