WhatsApp Web finally gets support for audio and video calls
Today WhatsApp is rectifying one of the major shortcomings of its web client, as it now finally supports audio and video calls. Obviously, this requires no download or installation, as it is part of WhatsApp Web, which has also gained support for screen sharing, reactions, and a dedicated Calls tab with your full call history and favorites.
Like everywhere else on WhatsApp, the calls you make on WhatsApp Web are end-to-end encrypted, and have no time limits or costs. You can now also move a call from one device to another without having to hang up and start a new one. This works from the mobile app to WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop and vice versa.
Additionally, when you create a WhatsApp call link, and select "Require approval to join", participants will enter a waiting room until you approve them. Noise suppression is launching too, removing background noise around you so you sound clearer. This can be managed in your in-call settings.
Finally, when on a video call, you will enjoy HD quality immediately from the very first few seconds of the call, no more waiting around for HD to kick in. All of these features are rolling out "gradually" and will be available to everyone "soon", according to WhatsApp.
