Desktop mode depends on the manufacturers, whether they choose to bundle it with their skin or not.

Snapdragon 8 Gen = flagship tier
Snapdragon 8+ Gen = improved version of the same gen
Snapdragon 8 Gen for Samsung / Leading / Full Blood etc...= oc variants of the same gen
Snapdragon 8 Elite = a big leap compared to previous gens
Snapdragon 8 elite for Samsung / Leading / Full Blood etc...= oc variants of the same gen
Snapdragon 8 Elite Pro = an even higher-end version of that big leap
Also, just so you know, even if the name is the same, there are versions where the core count is reduced or the clock speed is quietly lowered.
Honestly, it used to be way easier when it was just numbers. Now it’s kinda all over the place.
Can you guys even keep up with Qualcomm’s naming these days?

And a few months ago I already said similar thing as the other commenter, that SD 8gen2 is still very relevant today and can play any recent high-end Android games at max quality. They release new chips just for the sake of releasing new chips and to purposely make the last gen chip redundant. Ironically, they also still make a new variant of SD680 under a new name.
