Lord Bennington, 27 Mar 2026You haven't really looked at some of the numbers have you? 4k read and write on phones? Have you looked at laptop numbers?
AsUsualADumbAmerican, 26 Mar 2026This is such a one sided nonsensical comment. Apple and Samsung and even Pixel have been stuck... moreGood to see you figured that, it is one sided and that side is Qualcomm executives. I've been working with executives for years and i know their motivations. This is a glimpse of discussions they would do. Every innovation and r&d is motivated by more profits, nothing else.

Apple and Samsung and even Pixel have been stuck in the same loop with minor hardware improvements since last 5 years, even when SOC and RAM cost were still under control.
Chinese brands are the only ones truly innovating, they are slowly but steadily becoming global.

Lord Bennington, 26 Mar 2026Don't forget the storage speeds on Android flagships. They are rivaling high end laptop ... moreWell yes but been tired to write way too long disgusting message how bad they are. What if it will not pass here. Lot of my time will be for vain.

Apple is still stuck on old nvme which shows in the numbers and real world usage.
YUKI93, 26 Mar 2026I wonder if Qualcomm will finally include AVF support for 8/8 Elite Gen 6 chips. Linux Termina... moreFlagship phones have never been that expensive to manufacture. What changed is that SoC and memory costs have surged over the past two years, and as a result, smartphone brands are cutting corners wherever they can.
This is the current state of the flagship segment:
- Samsung and Apple avoid major hardware upgrades every year.
- Google relies on SoCs that are already two generations old.
- Motorolaβs flagship efforts are mostly limited to niche flip models.
- Chinese brands hesitate to invest in building a true global distribution network.
So the simple answer to your question comes down to these considerations:
- Does the new feature increase the cost of the SoC?
- Will it attract more Apple users to switch to Android compared to Gen 5?
- Will it shift an additional 5β10% of MediaTek using phones toward Qualcomm compared to Gen 5?
I wonder if Qualcomm will finally include AVF support for 8/8 Elite Gen 6 chips. Linux Terminal is a great feature to have, yet you can't have it on Snapdragon chips because of no AVF support.
can't wait for "qualcomm snapdragon 8 elite gen 6 pro for galaxy"
Gamers and emulation enthusiasts will enjoy all the raw power of the new 8Elite Gen 6 series chips. I just hoped Qualcomm hires a new naming expert to organize their messy naming schemes
Why cant it be just:
8 Elite Gen 6
8 Plus Gen 6
8 Gen 6
jinxthesloth, 25 Mar 2026Holy Expensive as ****, Batman!
I know Semiconductors gotten too expensive and complex to k... more8 elite gen 5 was already hovering around $250-300. The next iteration will be obviously more expensive. The "Pro" variant seems to have even more cache which will make it prohibitively expensive.
I mean, Qualcomm made 8 gen 5 "affordable" by stripping away the cache and using cheaper memory controller despite using the same cores (although it maybe the lower yield ones) from 8EG5.
On top of all of these, the 2nm TSMC wafers are said to be 50% more expensive than N3E/P nodes. So, we will be in for a very uncomfortable ride.
It will be more practical to get these chips after a couple of years that too only if you need that kind of power.
Probably the reason why its less impressive cause this chip are heavily improved in AI processing and not in Raw Power, like training AI Chip.
Well Better AI is their battle now.
Anonymous, 25 Mar 2026I have low end dell ( Inspiron). With ryzen 5 from 2022. Its raw power is on pair with 8g2.... moreIt's not just about raw power. These arm SoCs are way more efficient than x86 CPUs. The ones which are efficient like those Lunar Lakes with onboard RAMs are still ridiculously expensive.
Anonymous, 25 Mar 2026Absolutely. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is more than good enough to satisfy even the biggest power use... moreThe cutting edge games do require more, you can see a clear improvement in stuff like ZZZ and Endfield when using a 8 elite compared to 8 gen 2.

It is not impossible for a $400-500 laptop from late 2025/early 2026 to match Elite gen 5 or gen 6.
