If I understood correctly the statement above is true only for certified devices with Google Play Services installed, which is still the majority of Android devices. I guess custom ROM support will make a big comeback.
"Google is still pushing its developer identity verification program, which will go into effect from September. Unverified developers will need to verify their identity with Google by sharing personal details such as their address, email, phone number and a copy of their ID. Google is also requiring a $25 registration fee."
lmao, f*ck google. Not only they are now harvesting devs personal info, but on top of that, you have to pay them for it lmao
Pack up people, time to move onto greener pastures. Maybe HarmonyOS or something else might get a better chance now

Whoever said that the b... moreIf that's the best argument for switching than it's obviously not a good enough option if you switch because you hate the other alternative and not because you like what linux has to offer.
For all you kids complaining about this, you have to thank Epic games. In the pursuit of greed, Epic games asked people to sideload Fortnight on Android. Then they actually shipped a version with security vulnerability. Google tried to warn Epic but they took their time to patch it.
Adding that Epic was suing Google as well, it made Google pause and think, and they decided to take further steps to improve consumer trust for the Android brand. This is one of the results of that.

(There's a trick to bypass that t... moreThe absolute irony is that in our country, a single developer is monopolising and white labelling a majority of the bank and carrier apps, which forces me to attend banks and my telephone operator physically, now that they've discontinued the USSD codes for their functionality.
Koishi Komeiji, 20 Mar 2026Android is more like iOS in the present now... Past Android (until Pie) is BETTERHappy Nokia 8 user on Android 9, and I don't regret using an older Android version that doesn't compromise anything in the namesake of "safety".

Amd let's say, what you're saying is true, it doesn't means it's the same in every region of the world. I've seen 2-3 banking apps runs just fine, with only a popup saying to disable developer option, which luckily has the option to click SKIP and proceed into the app but the major bank ones don't support it
how about they wait for us to reactive their bloatware in our phone fpr aeon.... if you are true android user then you should deactive their bloatwares or remove them from your phone
no need no use and at the top of that they took alot of RAM&ROM spaces for no any benefit for me to have

I think this is not an issue. I have many friends & family with Android; among them, nobody really knows about sideloading. Even they don't change the unused app background battery usage or disable unwanted apps from Google.

The self verification is fine but the dev verification is going to kill so many apps lol

dont worry anyone just delete GMS services and google play store. i have deleted both apps and i dont have to go thru these crap steps to sideload apps. whoever has google play store n gms services will be affected by this. but degoogled phone wont be affected coz Gms services wont be there so no hassle no headache or whatsoever.
