Given that chipsets haven'... moreNot even, AI maybe, but honestly unless you're running emulation, vms, terminal apps or the most demanding games then even upper mid range SoCs and 6/8GB ram from 5 years ago are still sufficient for almost everyone. The biggest thing you miss with an older SoC is battery life. But if everything is 4x A78 and 4x A55 6nm does it even matter?

It would be nice to know the fab process node seeing how the Arm core configuration is effectively the same as the Dimensity 1100 released in January 2021.

By producing these nonsense chipsets with confusing naming schemes demonstrates that MediaTek is still a 2nd tier chip design company.

Anonymous, 03 Jan 2026G68 aka G77 is a generation behind G610 aka G710. 1 G610 shader is better than 2 G68 shader cores. I could validate that based on experience i have with my Motorola Edge 40 Neo with the Dimensity 7030 (Mali-G610 MC3 GPU), compared to my last device Samsung Galaxy A14 5G with Exynos 1330 (Mali-G68 MP2). My current device decimate my last device in graphics performance obviously. The Dimensity 7100 still feel like a let down. It won't be that all of an upgrade compare to my current device's chipset except the CPU part including 2 extra A78 cores. But the Mali-G610 GPU is one core less and there's no mention of D7100 coming with an integrated AI (NPU) processor, though i stand corrected on the latter.

Anonymous, 03 Jan 2026Not really, it has twice the FMAs but not necessarily a 2x increase in area. Pretty obvious that I was talking about performance, not area.

Anonymous, 03 Jan 2026Whaaat? Dimensity 7100 is weaker than Dimensity 7200 and 7300? No shit sherlock. 7200 is better and more advanced in some ways than 7300/7400 (armv9, 14bits ISP vs 12bits, better 5g peak speed)
On one side you've got 7200 and 7350 which are nearly the same
On the other side 7300, 7360 and 7400 which are nearly the same but different than 7200/7350.
                  In reality, you've got 7300=7360

Its a good budget upgrade in 5G space. Now if only they could do same for its 4G chipsets. 4xA76 and 2xG68 cores for better entry level 4G.

Releasing the Dimensity 7100 after the Dimensity 7400 makes no sense when the Dimensity 6100+ and 8100 were unveiled years ago.
