Many years ago I got two Xperia Z2 on preorder (so early production), each from different sources (UK), both phones developed problems with touchscreen (ghost touch). Both got replaced by SONY - one phone call and next day courier delivered replacements and collected faulty ones. Both lasted me for years including underwater filming in swimming pool (one of them I still use as "internet radio" and landline phone in the kitchen). Sh*t happens but Sony doesnt mess around and sorts things out without any hassle.
Since then me and my family had been abusing Z4, Z5compacts (my favourite), XZ1 another favourite indestructible - now in use as dashcams in cars and still on original battery, 1 V, 5V, 10III, 10V. All great and very reliable phones. And before anyone comments about price - I dont care about couple hundred quid extra if I get solid phone with good service backing. (Oh and SD slot and phone jack is a must for me)

They had over dozen cheap ODM models at one point trying to grab the piece of bottom of the barrel pie. Unfortunately they lost that battle real hard and that was it. Samsung barely survived it too.

Sony should have just continue with their own manufacturing process, not outsourcing it to someone else. I'm afraid this will be the starting point of their smartphone demise. The discontinuation of Xperia 5 and now this Xperia 1 issues arising, not to forget the delays of Xperia 10 launch. Things are not looking good right now for them.

My 10 VI just got yesterday July security updates (in July!), I hope they keep it going till support ends, my first and last Xperia.

Next time going check Fairphone, maybe 7th model out by then, I hoped bigger battery on 6th model but wasn't much big upgrade.

These problems started because Sony, like many other companies that embarked on this trend of no longer manufacturing large parts of their devices, suffered problems due to suppliers. However, they took responsibility for everything and are covering all their customers and fulfilling all their commitments. This is something few do... Apple had problems with this, Samsung had similar problems, and instead of taking responsibility, they blamed the suppliers, doing something very ugly and irresponsible. This is unfortunately how companies operate...
