14-16 Learning Academy

NWSLC 14-16 Learning Academy is designed to offer young people unique opportunities for success through alternative provisions and elective home education. Our academy is committed to providing qualifications that students may not have access to otherwise, ensuring a broader educational landscape.

At the 14-16 Learning Academy, we aim to transform the lives of young people through high-quality education, respect, and care. We aim to provide learners with the opportunity to obtain good results in key subjects that secure their future destinations. We also give our students the opportunity to learn from a college campus environment, meaning that there is an easy transition into Post-16 provision.

We offer three pathways within our alternative provision:

Ignite: 10 Week Personal Development Pathway with a tailored curriculum.
Inspire: Full-time alternative provision.
Career Step: One-day vocational placement to enhance the school’s curriculum offering.

These are usually one-day-a-week placements from 9am – 3pm. Availability of the courses are subject to demand and limited by places. Students may integrate into Post-16 courses where they will learn their vocation alongside students within the further education college or if possible in specific 14–16 vocational groups.

Our Inspire programme is a specialised educational pathway designed for 14-16-year-old students who may not thrive in a traditional school environment. This alternative provision focuses on providing individual support in a nurturing learning atmosphere to help students achieve future success.

Our Inspire students benefit from small groups of up to 10 learners that allow for a more personalised approach to education, ensuring a focused and supportive learning environment. The programme is also hosted in a college campus environment, which facilitates an easy transition into post-sixteen education for those who choose to stay at NWSLC. The Inspire programme is available at our Nuneaton Campus, which features light and spacious classrooms, additional breakout areas for students, a large social area, and catering facilities, creating an ideal environment for academic progression.

“I found the transition from primary to secondary school particularly difficult. I struggled to develop relationships with the teachers and students, which led to an impact on my education, so my Mum decided to teach me at home. The home-education scheme allowed me to integrate myself back into society. Alongside my studies, it was a great way to enhance my social skills and much easier to make friends with people who were in a similar situation to myself and make new friends. The help and support I got from the staff and students have helped me to take my learning further.”Jamaal P

“The best thing about the programme is the small class sizes and the one-to-one teaching time. The programme helped me to gain the confidence to decide what subject I would like to do. I hope to start a career in the creative sector and will start a course in art and design at the college in September.” Olive H

“Inspire made me realise that I can achieve many things. This includes improving my maths, English, and science skills more than I ever thought I could. Smaller classes have helped me to concentrate more, and when I am struggling, I can get the help I need.” – Luke U

“Whilst I have been at Inspire, I have developed many new positive characteristics, and this has helped me overcome the negativity in my life. The staff at Inspire pay attention to students’ individual and personal needs and set boundaries to help us reach our full potential. As students, we feel valued and respected. Teachers make the work more interesting and entertaining.” – Chloe B
