  • Our smallest neighbours make our cities more habitable. People, streets, traffic, noise… and if we do it right: bees, butterflies, and other tiny pollinators among us too 🐝 Cities are not just for people to live in but also a place where nature can thrive. Urban green spaces, parks, gardens, green roofs and tree-lined streets help make cities healthier, cooler and more biodiverse. Small pollinators have a huge play in this: 🌼 they help plants reproduce 🌼 they support urban biodiversity 🌼 they make our cities greener and more climate resilient Learn more about what the EU does to protect nature and biodiversity: https://lnkd.in/eNsHNfXY

  • 🤔 ️ What will the EU do at COP31? As the world prepares for COP31, the UN’s annual climate conference, our Deputy Director-General Jan Dusík explains why this moment matters for the EU and how our negotiators will be working on the ground. In this interview, Jan reminds us that COP is much more than negotiations. It is the high point of international climate diplomacy: a space to coordinate between the EU and partners all around the world, advance the goals of the Paris Agreement, and build and strengthen the partnerships needed to raise ambition on climate action. Among the EU’s priorities this year: ✅ strengthening effective multilateral cooperation under the Paris Agreement ✅ pushing for stronger climate action to limit the overshoot of the 1.5°C goal ✅ advancing electrification and the shift away from fossil fuels ✅ showcasing the EU’s work on adaptation and resilience to inform and inspire other countries’ efforts ✅ ensuring that climate finance effectively supports partner countries’ climate action As Jan underlines, climate diplomacy is also about Europe’s security, independence and competitiveness, from reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels to opening new markets for clean tech and strengthening partnerships worldwide. 🎥 Watch the full interview to learn more about the EU’s priorities at COP31 and why climate diplomacy matters more than ever. #EUatCOP31 #COP31

  • 🎃🐝 No bees → no pumpkins → no Halloween. *Pumpkins need pollinators to grow, but 1 in 3 bee, butterfly and hoverfly species is in decline. And unlike some crops where a single pollinator visit can do the job, pumpkins are demanding. This Halloween, give pollinators some love. Because a world without them is a real-life horror story! Here’s how you can help pollinators: 🌼 Replace lawns with wildflower meadows 🌼 Plant native, pollen-rich flowers like lavender and sunflowers 🌼 Choose organic gardening and natural pest control 🌼 Leave out shallow water, with stones for safe landing spots 🇪🇺 With the #EUPollinators Initiative, the EU is committed to reversing the decline of wild pollinators by 2030 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyd9Xq7F

  • A global challenge requires global action 🌍 Ahead of COP31, we are proud to partner with countries across the world to support their efforts to cut emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. In 2025, the EU and its Member States contributed €32.3 billion in public climate finance and mobilised an additional €9.3 billion in private finance to tackle the climate crisis. Almost half (48%) of the EU’s contribution went to adaptation or cross-cutting action, tackling both emissions and climate impacts. Grants and concessional loans accounted for 63% of EU public climate finance, providing key support to countries particularly vulnerable to climate change and facing significant capacity constraints, including Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs). 🗺️ Explore our map to see where the EU supports climate action. 🔗 Read more at: https://lnkd.in/eUgBk5Xz #EUatCOP31 #COP31 Global Gateway EU Mediterranean European External Action Service European Investment Bank (EIB)

It was a pleasure to be part of the InnoEnergy's Business Booster event and highlight Europe's cleantech ambitions with leading figures from across the sector. Cleantech is essential to Europe's competitiveness, and industrial decarbonisation is a key policy priority. We will continue to mobilise investment to turn Europe's clean industrial ambitions into reality. The EU Emissions Trading System is set to become an even stronger engine for decarbonisation investment. The Industrial Decarbonisation Bank is crucial for scaling up investments. Its Investment Booster is taking shape with valuable stakeholder feedback on how to best accelerate the transition of our industries. Just last week, we held a stakeholder consultation that attracted over 1600 industry representatives and other stakeholders who offered valuable contributions and support. You can watch the event recording here - Investment Booster: Stakeholder consultation event - Climate Action. The Innovation Fund will also continue to play a vital role in the cleantech ecosystem by derisking the commercialisation of innovative technologies. Projects that have reached financial close already represent over €13 billion in CAPEX investment, with this figure expected to grow by the end of the year as grant disbursements progress. With continued collaboration, we can accelerate Europe’s clean industrial transition and strengthen competitiveness. Watch the video below to hear more ⤵️

  • 🧴 Packaging is one of the EU's most resource-intensive sectors. In 2024, every person in the EU generated an average of 35.9 kg of plastic packaging waste. ♻️ And only 15.3 kg was recycled. Beyond consuming vast quantities of valuable materials and driving carbon emissions, packaging represents nearly half of all marine litter. It is also a public health concern due to the presence of harmful chemicals, such as PFAS ("forever chemicals"), in food contact materials. • We have launched the EU Framework for Climate Resilience! Restoring nature is our best defence – and there is plenty of proof for this approach: 🌊Flooding: €18 billion of avoided damage costs across the EU and UK via ecosystem flood control per year 🔥Wildfires: 10–80% reduction in wildfire insurance costs through ecological forestry per year 🌍Carbon storage: Europe's peatlands and wetlands lock up roughly five times more carbon than all of Europe's forests combined We need a fundamental shift from reacting to disasters to getting ahead of climate impacts and avoiding damage. Let's start today. The new EU Framework for Climate Resilience strengthens Europe’s ability to anticipate and manage climate risks, protect people and places, and prevent avoidable damage. • 🌱💶 New Friends of Credits for Nature and Biodiversity initiative launched at #COP17Armenia! This is an informal, inclusive, government-led initiative thought to build international support for nature credits and strengthen cooperation on biodiversity finance. Nature credits are innovative financial tools that encourage investment in protecting, restoring and maintaining nature, while rewarding those who carry out these activities. By making nature-positive actions more visible, credible and attractive to investors, they can help bring more private funding to nature. Several countries from around the 🌍 world have already joined and expressed interest for the Friends of Credits for Nature and Biodiversity initiative, which is also open to relevant international organisations.
