A new community for the new economy

About us

Established in 2018 by Michael Bloomberg, the New Economy seeks to build a community of leaders to engage in real conversations—leading to actionable solutions—about the critical challenges facing a world economy in the throes of a historic transition. The inaugural Forum was held in Singapore, and the second annual Forum was hosted in Beijing. These covered a range of topics, including global economic management, trade and investment, technology, urbanization, capital markets, climate change and inclusion. Mike Bloomberg, the Founder of Bloomberg L.P., brings to the Forum the same pragmatic approach to problem-solving that marked his tenure as the three-term Mayor of New York City.

  • What if geography was no longer a barrier to cancer care? That’s the ambition behind the Pan-American Cancer Consortium (PACC), convened by Bloomberg New Economy’s International Cancer Coalition. Following the launch at ASCO 2025, leaders across the Americas are now moving from alignment to execution—designing a scalable, cross-border model to expand access, accelerate trials, and improve outcomes. The model is clear: connect multidisciplinary teams across borders, powered by AI, to turn fragmented data into faster decisions, smarter trial matching, and more equitable care. “Latin America has the expertise, the innovation, and the urgency. What has been missing is the connective tissue.” — Dr. Clarissa Mathias, ASCO Board Member From Brazil’s clinical trial-access pilot to regional MDT integration, this is about building infrastructure that lasts—operationally, clinically, and financially. If this model succeeds, it won’t just transform cancer care in the Americas—it will redefine how global health collaboration works. Read the full article here 🌍 https://bloom.bg/4bAvszY

  • Our Energy Technology Coalition, co-chaired with Schneider Electric, met at #BloombergHouse Davos to examine the barriers slowing the adoption of demand-side energy technology during a period of rapid electrification. ⚡Coalition members Manon van Beek and Arch Rao contributed perspectives from across the global energy system. ⚡Co-chair Frederic Godemel emphasized the urgency of collective action: “The future of energy is very much about unlocking silos and transversal cooperation across sectors. Without this, we risk losing momentum on the clear and more digitalized system we are building.” Our #WEF26 roundtable identified the most pressing adoption barriers and outlined where coordinated action can accelerate progress. Building on this week’s dialogue in Delhi, it is clear that AI sovereignty has moved beyond innovation and into the realm of economic strategy. At the Bloomberg New Economy breakfast, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and Erik Schatzker along with several leaders across policy, finance and technology brought sharp perspectives on infrastructure, policy alignment and capital formation in the AI era. The conversation underscored how central coordinated execution will be - particularly for emerging economies navigating technological transformation at scale. These early discussions form an important precursor to the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi this October. Good to be part of the table as the agenda begins to take shape.

In Delhi this week for a packed few days focused on AI and global growth.I’ll be attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and am looking forward to conversations with policymakers, technologists, and business leaders on responsible AI, infrastructure, and scaling innovation. If you’re attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026, I’d be glad to connect. The trip is also part of our preparations for the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, which will take place October 13–15 in Delhi. We’re excited to bring the Forum to India and to deepen engagement across the region ahead of October. And on Friday, we will host a special breakfast with New Economy advisory board members and delegates to exchange perspectives on AI as we look ahead to the Forum.

Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, is one of the most prolific and intellectually serious voices in venture capital on the subject of AI. I talked to him here at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi as part of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum's AI Leadership Dialogue. Hemant is worth listening to. We talked about: - Whether foundation models like Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT can keep evolving at an exponential pace - How to avoid “AI-induced paralysis” as a CEO - The AI “fear trade” and SaaSpocalypse - The impact on General Catalyst’s portfolio of investments - What software “moats” will be durable - Anthropic’s standoff with the Pentagon over military uses for AI - Where India and the Global South fit in the geopolitics of AI - India’s AI prospects - How to adopt AI in a country that prioritizes maximum employment over efficiency Our conversation starts at 1m40s of the 👇 video link https://lnkd.in/eCnGerRW

Every conversation about AI eventually leads back to energy, not how much we need, but how wisely we use it. The more energy is demanded from our grid, the more important energy technology becomes. When energy is made to be more intelligent, we can make practical improvements in how it is managed. Buildings consume less electricity, microgrids create more resilience, digital twins visualize richer data for superior pre-construction planning.   The Bloomberg New Economy Energy Technology Coalition was created to accelerate this shift. To create a space for leaders to work through shared constraints and shape practical, scalable pathways forward. Smarter energy use is becoming a defining leadership choice.    Explore how the Coalition is helping leaders move forward:👉 https://lnkd.in/dDz75vGr #EnergyTechnology #AdvancingEnergyTech

  • #WorldCancerDay is a reminder that where you live shouldn’t determine the quality of cancer care you receive. At the Bloomberg New Economy Forum #InternationalCancerCoalition Co-Founder Robert Daly shared how the Coalition is working to bring high-quality cancer care and clinical trials to patients, wherever they are. From telehealth and hospital-at-home models, to rethinking policy and reimbursement, the mission is to remove barriers to access and make breakthrough cancer treatments available beyond the walls of major cancer centers.
