DWCS APRIL NEWSLETTER
Happy April ~
We hope your first quarter was an outstanding one filled with progress. It is startling how fast the months are flying by this year! It's officially Spring... how many of these 'typical Spring flowers' do you have in your garden: lilacs, irises, lilies, tulips, daffodils, and dandelions. (or lawn!) Fun facts: Did you know honeybees are more likely to swarm in the Spring? Grasshoppers have ears in their bellies. (who knew?) And just one more: Spring can make you feel happier. Ok... I like that one the best! :)
There are times when I need a strong dose of motivation. Spring tends to be calming and exciting all at once.
STEPS FOR MOTIVATION FOR 2nd QUARTER
1. Break down tasks - large tasks can feel overwhelming. Divide them into smaller, more manageable chunks. The work will seem less daunting, and you'll build momentum with each completed step.
2. Set achievable goals that are realistic and within your reach.
3. Focus on the positive - likely the hardest thing to do! Every day, take a minute to write down or reflect on the good things that have happened. Appreciate your life and practice gratitude for yourself and others around you. Recognizing the good things in your life is a powerful motivator.
4. Seek support and encouragement. Attend events and connect with like-minded individuals who can provide this. Don't be afraid to try new things and don't be afraid to fail. Failure can be a valuable learning experience.
NEW FOR YOU FROM DWCS
We have added hourly coaching to our DWCS Coaching Solutions. Over the years (LinkedIn will be 22 in May), many members have become savvy with the basics of profile optimization and engagement. For those at that level of expertise, we welcome the opportunity to spend a focused hour on the topic of your choice.
Full-time students qualify for a reduced coaching fee on our 1:1 session for profile optimization and completion. Students, especially, need to be presented properly on LinkedIn to be found by HR directors.
Nonprofit organizations: Contact us to learn about our pro bono program to conduct a virtual hour of LinkedIn best practices for your executive, development, and marketing staff. Remember, my first career of 23 years spent in the nonprofit industry.
We are seeking annual event opportunities for the summer months! For details on all of the above, contact us.

LINKEDIN TIPS AND MORE
TIP 1 - 3 CLICKS TO LEAD GENERATION Have you run out of people to invite to your network? (Is that even possible?!!) LinkedIn will help. HOW: Tap My Network in the navigation bar and scroll down through rows of suggested members to More Suggestions for You. Although you may not recognize many members, LinkedIn has determined that there is synergy on some level between you and every suggested person. They've compared your data and theirs, so take a few minutes, look at the Mutual Connections, and then visit the profile for further vetting - you are looking for value. Can you help them or vice versa? You may want to extend an invitation to connect.
TIP 2 - ADD PROFILE SECTION You may be missing important content on your profile that is easy to add. LinkedIn considers these things to be important enough to have their own section. Take a look! HOW: Under your name, headline, and location, tap Add Profile Section. Core sections are displayed, but be sure to look under Recommended and Additional. All options are easy templates to complete and save. Many of these options will further validate your expertise - don't be bashful! My personal favorite is Volunteering (buried under 'Additional'), whether past or present, this section will show Viewers what you care about enough to make time to do. Volunteering speaks volumes about your character.
TIP 3 - SCAN DON'T READ LinkedIn puts you on your Home Page first, for a reason. Our suggestion is to start your visit by reviewing what's happening in your network. We suggest scanning your feed for just one or two minutes - that's all you need to find a couple of posts to act on. When something 'jumps off the page' or causes you to pause, React to it! That quick action creates Activity and is the start of Engagement. It's also displayed on your profile under Activity. TIP: Tap the 3 dots (called an ellipsis) in the upper right corner of any post to Save it for reading later. Saved items are on the left margin of your Home page. When you can add value to the post, write a Comment - make it a sentence (not just one or two words) to get the algorithm's attention. The algo loves engagement and, in return for the minute or two invested, your visibility will be expanded.
