Elements Of Storytelling In eLearning - eLearning Industry. Most employees really do want to learn, especially if the content applies to their work and can help them move up. Building the learning as a story helps the employee “get it.” The truth is human beings are designed for stories. One good story can replace pages of text because the reader becomes involved. Spice up your training.

Make a glossary for your elearning. Instructional designers, glossaries are not just “nice to have.” They help learners feel safe when content gets technical. When people run into unfamiliar words, their brains slow down. Instead of learning the idea, they wrestle with the vocabulary. Research explains that “Vocabulary knowledge is strongly related to reading comprehension and overall academic success.” That means if learners do not understand the words, they cannot fully understand the lesson. A glossary gives them a quick rescue tool so they can keep moving forward. In eLearning, this looks like short, clear definitions written in everyday language, placed right where learners need them. Click-to-open definitions, hover-over terms, or a searchable glossary page can reduce frustration and boost confidence. Think of a glossary like a built-in translator for your course. When learners trust that help is one click away, they spend less energy worrying and more energy learning.

I've recently learned about the notion of Learner Personas from Connie Malamed, the eLearning Coach, through a graduate course with Karen Caldwell. I have already found them useful for summarizing the various aspects of my target audience when designing an instructional intervention. It allows me to continue to have the learners in mind, yet stay a little bit removed by having 2 or 3 fictional personas of the target audience as sort of aggregates of the real target learners. Read more about developing a Learner Persona in this article by Connie on her website, The eLearning Coach. https://lnkd.in/g2EDnXFd

This sounds like a fantastic resource. I also teach how to apply accessibility features to Storyline courses (on my YouTube channel) but this guy has more years of experience.
Almost 10 years ago, I built a course to help new Articulate users make their courses accessible and compliant with WCAG and Section 508. At the time, I was still finding my footing in the role and struggling with accessibility myself. I remember telling my supervisor, “If this is hard for me as a full-time eLearning developer, how much harder is it for people building courses as part of their ‘other duties as assigned’?” That question turned into a course. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of state eLearning developers take real, practical steps toward accessibility - from contrast and captions to focus order and screen reader testing. It’s been some of the most meaningful work I’ve done. After a professional transition, I took a break from teaching it. But now it’s back, better than ever. In partnership with South Puget Sound Community College, I’m offering the updated version, packed with the latest accessibility improvements in Storyline. And this time, it’s open to everyone. If you want a practical, hands-on day focused on building more accessible Storyline courses, join me. Have you ever built a comprehensive, beautifully designed elearning course, only for learners to drop off midway through? Standard LMS tracking only tells you if they passed or failed, leaving you guessing where the friction lies. With Cluelabs User Flow Analytics, instructional designers can finally see the entire learner journey. You can track exactly which slides learners visit, where they choose to exit the course, what specific buttons they click, and how long they spend on each interaction. Best of all, it works seamlessly with Storyline and Rise, even if you aren't using an LMS. By shifting from mere completion tracking to deep behavioral insights, you can pinpoint confusing content, remove friction, and build training that actually works.

If you currently develop your own eLearning content, buy in eLearning or are considering eLearning content development - here are some of my tips and common mistakes made that you should look to avoid. ❌ Converting a PowerPoint dec in to an eLearning module without redesign ❌ Overloading modules with text ❌ Having no interaction, engagement or knowledge checks ❌ Not being able to measure the impact of the learning after completion ❌ Not having stakeholder engagement Are you looking to convert classroom learning in to eLearning modules and training videos? Are you looking in to ways of creating engagement through digital and training videos? ENB eLearning can help you do exactly that. We deliver classroom training, we design eLearning content and we craft the best training videos which support all learners and embed continuous learning even after the workshop is complete.
