💻 #MondayMorningDesk | Beyond the Ask: Rethinking Data & Corporate Connection In development, we talk a lot about data — but too often, we only use it to report outcomes instead of build opportunity. Over the years, I’ve learned that data is more than proof of impact — it’s a currency of connection. When used strategically, it shifts the conversation with corporations from charity to shared value. Recently, as I’ve been settling into my new role, I’ve found myself doing something I never thought I’d celebrate — getting excited about spreadsheets. For the first time in a long time, I’m not just being handed data; I’m being asked, “What would you like the report to reflect?” And that question changes everything. Because when data starts to make sense — when it tells a story that connects mission to metrics — it becomes power. I’ve seen firsthand how companies are redefining what it means to “give.” They’re not just writing checks from their philanthropic budgets anymore — they’re investing marketing and outreach dollars to build authentic, purpose-driven partnerships. That’s where nonprofits have a powerful opening. When we use data to show audience reach, community demographics, and measurable engagement, we position our missions as market-aligned impact partners. We’re not asking for donations — we’re offering collaboration. Corporate sponsorships done well are not transactional; they’re transformational. They help brands amplify their story through the heart of community impact, while giving nonprofits access to something even more valuable than restricted grants — unrestricted freedom to grow. So as we head into another week, I want to challenge every development professional to see their data differently. Don’t just track it — translate it. Because when you learn to tell your story in both impact and influence, the right partners will see you as an investment, not an obligation. What an incredible session! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for Telling Your Story with Data: Practical Impact Reporting for Funders with trainer Karen Horsch. We had an incredible turnout as deeply engaged participants brought great curiosity and real-world examples to the discussion. The session started quietly, but before long, the chat was buzzing with thoughtful ideas about how design, color, and layout can shape how data is understood. Participants explored how to pull out the most meaningful insights from charts and numbers, the ones that truly connect back to a nonprofit’s mission and heart. Karen guided us through a practical, idea-filled session that ran right up to the end, with attendees eager to keep the conversation going. Several participants shared in the chat how helpful the material was, with one even planning to replay the recording for their full team - a true sign of impact!
