Beyond the ban: what does “rigor” actually mean in an AI world? This week’s newsletter left me thinking about a pattern I keep seeing in schools: When AI shows up, the first instinct is often restriction. Control. Fear of losing standards. But across classrooms, districts, and even countries, educators are starting to ask a different question—not how do we stop this, but how do we redesign learning so it actually holds up. A few ideas that stood out: Research suggests bans alone don’t protect learning—thoughtful design does Some systems are treating AI as a collaborative learning partner, not a shortcut AI is exposing where our old definitions of rigor were more about ritual than understanding The most promising approaches focus on pedagogy first, tools second Rigor isn’t disappearing. It’s being redefined—sometimes uncomfortably. This week’s edition looks at what that shift really means, who’s doing it well, and what happens when we stop fighting AI and start designing with intent. 👉 Read the full Jan. 23rd edition here: https://lnkd.in/dGTu7Hj6 Curious how others are thinking about rigor right now—what should we be holding onto, and what’s overdue for change? #AIinEducation #EducationalLeadership #FutureOfLearning #EdTech #TeachingAndLearning #AcademicRigor #ResponsibleAI

Scholé AI Secures $3M to Accelerate AI-Native Workforce Learning "A few decades ago, the internet democratized access to knowledge, and anyone could find answers with a click of a button. Today we're on the cusp of a similar moment with AI and learning, where every lifelong learner can have the teacher that's exactly right for them. No more one-size-fits-all training. That's the future of learning, and that's what we're building at Scholé." said Vinitra Swamy, PhD, CEO and co-founder, Scholé AI. More information didn’t make us smarter. On the contrary, it made us noisier. Learning didn’t break but its scale did. From where I sit, I foresee "micro-learning" will become the dominant way people stay competent in a world that no longer pauses long enough for mastery to settle. How I define micro-learning: upto 15 minute content that is practically prepared to teach a specific topic. The world didn’t just speed up, it fragmented too much. Tones of information now arrives faster than attention can settle, and depth now competes with distraction by default. Micro-learning isn’t a shortcut. It’s an adaptation. Small, intentional learning moments tied directly to use. Something you apply immediately—sometimes within the same hour. Especially with AI, the advantage isn’t broad understanding. It’s situational fluency. Maybe the future of learning isn’t more content. Just better timing. #MicroLearning #FutureOfLearning #AIinPractice #FutureOfWork

Google has quietly launched Learn About, offering a clear signal of where AI-powered learning is headed. Instead of producing a single response, Learn About helps users explore a topic step by step. It explains concepts, adapts to the learner’s level, asks follow-up questions, and encourages deeper understanding over time. This reflects a broader shift in how AI is being used for learning. AI is moving beyond information retrieval and toward supporting structured learning journeys. Systems are expected to understand context, track progress, and adapt explanations as understanding evolves. For enterprises and education platforms, this changes how learning tools should be designed. At CoReCo, this aligns closely with what we see in real-world AI deployments. The value comes from designing systems that guide users through complexity with clarity and intent. Learning happens over time. AI systems are beginning to reflect that reality. #AIinEducation #LearningDesign #GenerativeAI #corecotech

Is the pursuit of efficiency in digital learning inadvertently creating a hidden cost? My latest blog post, "The Hidden Cost of Efficient Learning," explores why active, effortful learning is more critical than ever in the age of digital media and AI. I've designed 'The Learning Circuit' (see image below) to illustrate this challenge. On one side, The Efficiency Loop (Passive) shows how quick AI answers can lead to hollow completion. On the other, The Agency Loop (Active) highlights that true understanding and resilience are forged through disequilibrium and productive struggle—even with AI as a thinking partner. This isn't about rejecting technology, but repositioning it. Join the conversation on how we can design learning experiences that restore curiosity, agency, and deep understanding. #ActiveLearning #AIinEducation #EdTech #LearningDesign #CriticalThinking #EducationPolicy Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gjQ_CJAR
