Our Primary School team is approaching the end of a two-year partnership with Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) and Science of Language and Reading #SOLAR at School of Education, La Trobe University where teachers participated in a professional learning and research project focused on language and literacy for early years (Foundation – Year 2). So proud of the work our school has done in improving Reading Instruction through data-driven, evidence informed best practice. Specifically grateful for the mentoring of Melanie Henry who has mentored and guided our work through this project. As Term 4 commences, we're working towards a great finale to this project and excited about the foundations to future practice it has helped set for our teachers to continue to improve our students' learning. #Literacy #Education #DIBELS #Assessment #EvidenceBasedPractice Charles La Trobe P-12 College #DataDrivenInstruction

Decolonising the Curriculum Globalisation has widened access to higher education, but it has also reinforced Western hierarchies of prestige, power, and language. Western knowledge traditions often claim universal validity while side lining indigenous and local ways of knowing. Decolonising is about questioning whose knowledge counts, whose voices are heard, and what purposes education serves. It is not about adding a few non-Western texts to your reading, or mentioning alternative frameworks in week 7 of your course. We, as learning designers, need to champion the creation of spaces, courses, and modules that value indigenous knowledge and oral traditions alongside established Western academic norms. Of course, it is not simple, nor easy, I know that. It takes courage, structural change, and a willingness to rethink. #pedagogy #decolonisation #education #globalisation

From Research to Impact Guests: Jeanne Marie Iorio and Catherine Hamm #EducationalDesignersUnited 276 Two wonderful guests from the University of Melbourne - what a pleasure this was! Jeanne taught the first class I took at Teachers College. Before that class I wasn’t sure if I was a right-fit for Columbia. Her teaching approach gave me the confidence to pursue my own interests in education. I’m eternally grateful. And it was a pleasure to meet Catherine - a new colleague who I hope to collaborate with in future endeavors! In this clip, Jeanne and Catherine tackle the question: “How does research translation create impact?” Part 2 of a wonderful conversation! #TeachingAndLearning #DemocraticEducation #InstructionalDesign Resources for Jeanne and Catherine Jeanne’s Page at the University of Melbourne: https://lnkd.in/dbdRhWUk Catherine’s Page at the University of Melbourne: https://lnkd.in/dEtngDAm This is their research project website: https://lnkd.in/d4kxrmhe This is information on the TV series: https://lnkd.in/dGApbqJ9 Here are links to their EC courses: Master of Teaching (EC): https://lnkd.in/dPT5swik Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching: https://lnkd.in/dG3zr55Z Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Research: https://lnkd.in/dCKurgK4

Mathematics is a gateway to opportunity - yet too many students in regional, remote and low-SES communities miss out on the essential support they need to succeed. Strengthening maths education in these contexts, by enriching teachers’ pedagogical skills is critical if we are to close gaps in engagement and achievement. That’s why we’re proud of our Focus on Maths program that supports teacher professional development in our most disadvantaged schools. This week we’re learning at the ATSIMA - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance Biennial Conference on Lunawuni (Bruny Island), Lutruwita (Tasmania), alongside three inspiring teachers from across regional and remote Australia, here with the support of our Focus on Maths grant program. Together, we’ll be hearing from leading experts and practitioners about how to better support First Nations learners, embed cultural responsiveness in maths teaching and build teacher capability where it is needed most. Equity in maths education means every student, no matter where they live or their background, has access to excellent teaching and meaningful learning. At AAMT and with the essential financial support of our partners, we’re working to ensure this becomes a reality across Australia. #ATSIMA2025 #MathsEducation #MathsEdAU #CulturallyResponsiveTeaching

Happy World Teachers’ Day! Teachers are the beating heart of education — and when they learn and work together, their impact is even greater. This year’s theme “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession” is a call for strengthened collaboration as the backbone of the profession. Across every stage of a teacher’s career — from preparation to lifelong learning — collaboration is key. Through co-teaching, joint reflection and partnerships, collaboration enables teachers to learn from one another and co-create solutions to improve learning. It strengthens teaching quality, boosts retention and helps shape classrooms where students can thrive — laying the foundation for equitable and resilient education systems worldwide. Yet, gaps remain: 89% of primary teachers worldwide are qualified, but only 82% are trained. And while 73% of high-income countries require continuous professional development, only 14% of low-income ones do — leaving too many teachers without the support they need. UNESCO is working to close these gaps for collaboration to become a norm. Because when teachers come together, education becomes stronger: https://shorturl.at/KSDkP ======== 💭 Who was the teacher who first sparked your love for research? Have you told them how grateful you are? ======== #WorldTeachersDay #Teachers #FuturesOfEducation #TeachersCannotBeCoded
