What does a deliberate and structured approach to implementation actually look like two years in? Last week, Newcastle school leaders found out first-hand. Mount Hutton Public School (2024 Learning Partner cohort) opened their doors to share how explicit teaching becomes sustained practice when implementation is deliberate and structured from the start. AERO Senior Implementation Consultant Jeanette Frost facilitated the day, bringing that same deliberate and structured lens to how schools learn from each other on not just what to implement, but how. 👉 Click here for more information on the Learning Partner project: https://lnkd.in/ghjrWjqQ 👉 Practical resources to support all schools with leading implementation are available here: https://lnkd.in/gRQTJRqf

One of the most powerful ideas in the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) Implementation Model is that effective change in schools rarely happens by accident. It requires a deliberate and structured approach to implementation. The model highlights several key criteria that help schools move from good ideas to sustained practice: - Implementation should be evidence-informed. Schools should be confident that the practices they are investing in are grounded in strong research. - It must also be practitioner-focused and accessible. If teachers cannot clearly understand and use a practice in their daily work, it will not endure. - Implementation needs to be adaptable to context. Every school community is different, and thoughtful adaptation helps ensure practices fit local needs while maintaining integrity. - The model is contextualised for Australian settings, recognising the realities and diversity of our education landscape. - Finally, it is applicable to evidence-based teaching practices, ensuring the focus remains on what improves learning. At Independent Schools Tasmania, we are intentionally using the AERO Implementation Model to guide how we work alongside schools—supporting leaders to embed professional learning into consistent classroom practice so that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

AERO’s new report on how systems and policymakers can support effective implementation in schools at scale is here. We worked closely with senior system leaders from across Australian jurisdictions and sectors to translate the research evidence into practical guidance for the Australian context. Their input helped us test and refine the approach to ensure it is clear, practical and reflects the real complexities of system leadership and implementation. 🔗https://lnkd.in/gqsn9X25

Our popular School Writing Instruction Framework has been viewed more than 24,000 times since it was introduced in June 2025. How did we make sure the resources are relevant, usable and effective? 🖊️ We conducted a year-long pilot with 3 secondary schools in New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia 🖊️ Year 8 teachers, students and school leaders participated, with each school’s English faculty involved alongside two or more additional faculties 🖊️ Nominated literacy leaders were provided additional time to lead the SWIF in each school 🖊️ Surveys were used at the start and end of the project to track confidence levels in teaching writing and time spent teaching writing skills 🖊️ Plus additional methods, techniques and insights - read our new Case Study for the full details https://lnkd.in/gvgbM_NJ #AERO #schoolwritinginstructionframework
