Artificial intelligence is not the future of education—it is already here, shaping how our students learn, think, and complete their assignments. The real question is no longer whether students will use AI, but how they will use it. If our assessment methods remain unchanged, we risk encouraging a culture where students simply ask AI to complete their work for them. But if we redesign assessments thoughtfully, AI can become a powerful learning partner rather than a shortcut. We need to move from AI avoidance to AI integration. Instead of asking students to submit answers, we should ask them to demonstrate their thinking: • How did they use AI to explore the topic? • What prompts did they use? • How did they verify or challenge the AI’s responses? • What insights did they develop beyond the AI’s output? Assessments should reward critical thinking, reflection, creativity, and problem-solving, not just final answers. When AI becomes part of the learning process, students build the skills that matter most in the modern workplace: judgment, curiosity, and ethical decision-making. AI in Education: Separating Hype from Helpful Practice 💬 “AI is going to replace teachers.” 💬 “If students use AI, that’s cheating.” 💬 “AI always knows best.” Sound familiar? These are some of the lines that keep popping up in conversations with my educator network. And they’re exactly the myths we need to challenge — not because AI is perfect, but because our professional judgment is what makes it powerful. From my experience, AI isn’t here to replace us. It’s here to amplify our teaching, helping us design richer lessons, embed meaningful resources, and focus more on connecting with students. When we guide students to question AI outputs, verify sources, and reflect on limitations, AI becomes a partner for learning, not a shortcut. Yes, AI is impressive — but it’s not infallible. It can hallucinate, misinterpret, or be biased. That’s why we must always start with pedagogy first: does this tool genuinely enhance the learning objective, or is it just flashy? Used intentionally, AI allows teachers and students to: Focus on higher-order thinking Personalize learning experiences Strengthen creativity and problem-solving Maintain rigor while saving time AI isn’t a threat. Based on recent analysis from MIT Sloan Management Review (2025), traditional views of AI as a sustainable competitive advantage are being challenged, suggesting that ubiquitous technology cannot provide a long-term edge. Instead, the real advantage lies in "residual heterogeneity", uniquely human factors like creativity, culture, judgement, and passion. This perspective made me reflect on how we approach AI education. We often focus on teaching tools: which platform to use, which prompt to write, or which application to explore. But tools evolve quickly. What students learn today may be outdated tomorrow. When learning is built around tools alone, it becomes temporary. AI education needs a longer vision. Students should learn how to think with AI more than simply how to use it. In my humble opinion, using AI is the easy part. The real value comes when learners connect AI to their own judgement, creativity, and sense of purpose. That is what creates lasting capability, not familiarity with a specific tool. If we continue teaching AI only as a productivity tool, we will keep chasing updates. “AI is not your competition. Your ignorance is.” That’s what I’ve realized after attending multiple webinars, YouTube sessions, LinkedIn expert talks, and several college seminars on AI, ML, and Generative AI. At first, like many students, I had one big question: “Will AI replace us?” But after listening to industry experts — and a powerful insight from our IT HOD during a session — my perspective completely changed. He said: “AI is not here to remove jobs. It is here to make our work easier, faster, and more efficient if we use it to its full potential.” That words stayed with me. Now I believe this: AI will not replace you. But someone who knows how to use AI might. The most effective way to use AI is not just for trends or shortcuts but to solve the real world problems. For example: Making quality education accessible — no matter the location. Many students in rural areas don’t have access to quality teachers. AI-powered learning platforms can provide personalized tutoring, instant doubtsolving, and learning support in regional languages. That’s where AI creates real impact. The real threat isn’t AI. What My Students Taught Me About AI. I teach at Hult International Business School. I'm supposed to be the one with the answers. In the last class, a student asked me a difficult question: She asked: "If AI can do in minutes what used to take weeks, what's the point of learning the underlying framework?" I paused. Then I realized — that's the most important question in education right now. Here's what I told her: AI gives you speed. Frameworks give you judgment. Speed without judgment is dangerous. A student who uses ChatGPT to build a financial model in 10 minutes but doesn't understand the assumptions behind it hasn't learned anything. But a student who understands the framework AND uses AI to move faster? That's a multiplier. The goal of education isn't to compete with AI. It's to make humans more powerful with AI.
