QuantX Labs exemplifies the new generation of quantum-enabled defence suppliers emerging from allied research ecosystems. Founded in 2016 as a University of Adelaide spin-out, the Australian company develops high-precision quantum clocks and sensors—technologies central to future-proofing Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) networks against satellite disruption. Its cryogenic sapphire oscillator (“CryoClock”) already underpins Australia’s $1.2 billion JORN radar upgrade, while its TEMPO optical atomic clock—based on rubidium two-photon transitions—will soon fly on a Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) mission, demonstrating space-qualified timing performance an order of magnitude superior to current GNSS references. QuantX’s compact quantum magnetometers also open applications in maritime and underground threat detection. For Europe, these capabilities correspond directly to critical EDT categories—Quantum Technologies, Space Systems, and Advanced Sensors—where sovereign supply remains limited. QuantX’s solutions could augment NATO’s multi-domain C4ISR architecture by enabling independent timing and resilient communications, yet its absence from EDF or PESCO frameworks keeps these benefits external to the EU industrial base. The company operates solely from Australia, with allied (AUKUS and Australian DoD) funding and no European production footprint. In Defence Finance Monitor’s assessment, QuantX Labs scores 4/10 on the European sovereignty scale: an emerging capability with strategic potential. Its technologies are fully aligned with EU and NATO priorities but require European partnerships or co-development to avoid future dependence on non-EU quantum suppliers. #DefenceFinanceMonitor #QuantX #QuantumTechnologies #OpticalClock #CryoClock #PNT #C4ISR #SpaceSystems #AUKUS #NATO #StrategicAutonomy #QuantumSensing #AlliedInnovation https://lnkd.in/d5bSyKGD

#IONQ broadly confirmed that the Quantum Computing Revolution is accelerating and that IonQ itself remains the #NVDA of the quantum. Revs +222%. >$1B in proposals. Close to landing some $100mm+ maybe with DoE, maybe for Golden Dome. Rolled out first city-wide QKD network in Geneva with CERN and Rolex. Integrating QKD payloads on Vector Atomic satellites. Things seem to be ramping nicely here, and mgmt's tone on the call was exceptionally confident and bullish on the future growth prospects for IonQ. I'm walking away from the report confident that IonQ can scale from $40mm in quarterly revs today -> $100+mm in quarterly revs by 27/28 -> ~$500mm in quarterly revs by 30. And then keep growing like wildfire thereafter. Amidst this massive revenue ramp, I expect IONQ stock to keep pushing higher.

Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Nagoya Institute of Technology 名古屋工業大学 (NITech), and the JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency have achieved “the world’s first successful demonstration of next-generation error correction codes mitigating the impact of atmospheric turbulence on ground-to-satellite laser communications.” This breakthrough builds on recent inter-satellite optical successes, including a record 1.8 Gbps communication between the JAXA’s Optical Data Relay Satellite and the Daichi No. 4 Advanced Radar Satellite over ~40,000 km, one of the fastest inter-satellite transmissions ever. We are proud to have contributed to these Space Laser Terminals with our space-qualified optical amplifiers including both high-power transmit and low-noise pre-amps, which helped close the link budget and maintain signal integrity across these unprecedented distances. Our technologies continue to support the next generation of satellite communications and data relay networks, enabling high-speed, reliable space communication. During a special visit to our Fiber Optics Center of Excellence in Torquay, United Kingdom, G&H was honored by the NEC Space Technologies delegation, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation for its exceptional contributions to inter-satellite optical communication technology. Discover our work on space amplifiers during Dr. Stratos Kehayas' invited presentation at Optica's Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science Technical Conference on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Colorado Convention Centre in Denver, CO. 📰 Read the full story here: https://hubs.ly/Q03Qmy_60 🔗 Learn about G&H’s involvement here: https://hubs.ly/Q03QmBnq0 #ABetterWorldWithPhotonics #GandH #Photonics #JAXA #NICT #NEC #SatelliteCommunications #SpaceTech #OpticalAmplifiers

Commercialisation of high data rate services in the #6G era is currently constrained by the limited availability of #radiofrequency (RF) spectrum. This has led to growing interest in leveraging large blocks of spectrum in higher frequency bands to meet the increasing demand for peak #data rates and capacity in #wireless #communication links. Free-space optical (FSO) communication has emerged as a promising solution to address these limitations and enhance modern communication systems. A recently published technical paper in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, titled CubeSat-Enabled Free-Space Optics: Joint Data Communication and Fine Beam Tracking, authored by Hossein Safi, Iman Tavakkolnia, and Harald Haas from the University of Cambridge (#LRDC), Mohammad Taghi Dabiri from Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Julian Cheng from The University of British Columbia Columbia, specifically tackles the challenges of integrating CubeSats, a type of #nanosatellite used for #space research and #technology testing, with FSO links. The paper proposes joint #data detection and beam tracking, and explores how to overcome constraints related to size, weight and power in order to accelerate advancements in high-throughput, low-Earth orbit communication systems. You can read the full paper, which tackles the problem of data detection and fine beam tracking for ground-to-CubeSat FSO links using an array of avalanche photodiodes (APDs) at the receiver, via the following link: https://lnkd.in/eAqxyx3j The image below illustrates a graphical representation of a ground-to-CubeSat FSO link and parameters affecting the channel.
