Change of Attitude Necessary to Increase AI Skills and Knowledge A change in attitude towards AI is essential to enhance AI skills and knowledge, as perceptions often shape how individuals and institutions engage with technology. Many still view AI with scepticism, fear, or a sense of detachment—seeing it as either a threat to jobs or a distant, highly technical field reserved for experts. This mindset limits curiosity, learning, and innovation. Shifting towards a more open, informed, and proactive attitude allows people to see AI as a collaborative tool that augments human capability, creativity, and decision-making. By embracing AI with curiosity and responsibility, educators, students, and professionals can build the skills and confidence needed to apply AI meaningfully and ethically across all sectors of society. From classrooms to workplaces, AI is reshaping how we learn, work, and connect. This issue of the CRI newsletter, explores why AI literacy is essential for everyone — not just tech experts. ***A few years ago, I couldn’t have imagined creating a video like this, in less than 5 minutes*** But here it is. The background, voice, and motion you’ll see were all generated by Artificial Intelligence. Only the picture is mine. That’s the power of AI, it’s transforming the way we create, communicate, and learn. And yet, many people still say “there’s no need to learn AI.” Let’s be honest — they’re lying to you. The world is changing fast, and those who don’t learn will simply be left behind. That’s why I believe AI education must begin at the foundational level. When children understand how AI works, not just as users but as creators, they develop the mindset needed for the future: curiosity, creativity, content verification, and critical thinking. With this vision, my team and I started “3rd Revolution”, a project dedicated to transforming education in Pakistan through AI integration. Because the future of education isn’t coming: it’s already here. If we truly want to empower the next generation, AI literacy must become as essential as reading and writing. #AIinEducation #ArtificialIntelligence #EdTech #FutureofLearning #Innovation #STEM #AIRevolution

I had the honour of being invited to Keith Ngesi Radio to discuss how #GenerativeAI (GenAI) is transforming the #HigherEducation landscape. During the session, I reflected on the ethical use of #GenAI in universities and explored how this technology is reshaping the way lecturers and students engage with knowledge. In teaching, lecturers are leveraging AI tools to design lesson plans, generate quizzes, create videos, and summarise learning materials, saving time and enhancing course design. In learning, students now benefit from intelligent tutoring systems and personalised learning resources that adapt to their progress, fostering deeper engagement and understanding. In research, GenAI is accelerating processes such as data analysis, literature reviews, and even hypothesis generation, significantly improving research productivity. #GenAI #HigherEducation #EthicalAI #DigitalTransformation #AIinEducation #SouthAfrica

𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻 “𝗨𝗻𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘀,” 𝗔𝗜 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 & 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Fresh off her presentation yesterday at the OpenAI Higher Education Conference, biomedical researcher and AI-ethics educator Professor Tina Austin joins us to share a practical, human-centered roadmap for teaching with AI. 🌱 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Faculty silos and tool-chasing are slowing real progress. Tina’s UnBlooms framework replaces “flip Bloom’s” with a non-linear, non-hierarchical approach that centers human judgment — especially students’ ability to evaluate AI outputs. 💡 𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿: • Why “plug-and-play” AI fails (today it’s ChatGPT or NotebookLM — tomorrow it’s something else) • How to design assignments where students evaluate AI using measurable rubrics • What AI literacy really looks like — computation, cognition, evaluation, and ethics • Campus adoption realities: pilots, “champions,” and how to move beyond silos • The bold truth: AI is not a good evaluator of AI — humans must lead 👩🏫 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁: Tina has taught at UCLA, USC, and Caltech; advises on AI literacy frameworks; launched a UC-wide initiative on AI in teaching and research; serves on the California & LA AI Task Forces; and is recognized as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and one of ASU+GSV’s Leading Women in AI. 🎧 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻/𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵: [comment below] 💬 Question: What’s one assignment you’d “UnBloom” this term? #AIxHigherEd #AIinEducation #UnBlooms #TeachingWithAI #AIEthics #AILiteracy #EdTech #Pedagogy #FacultyDevelopment Stefan Bauschard
