Workshops are powerful—but only when we turn learning into action. At UNSW, I applied lessons from professional skills, cross-cultural communication, wellbeing and career workshops directly into my roles as a Postgraduate SDG Student Representative, Career Accelerator Ambassador, and Health & Wellbeing Ambassador. These experiences taught me how workshop insights can evolve into real leadership, meaningful volunteering, and mentoring that supports others. I recently shared my reflections on this question: How does a student take workshop lessons and translate them into team leadership, volunteering, and mentoring others? #LeadershipDevelopment #UNSW #StudentLeadership #CareerAccelerator #SDGs #Wellbeing #Mentoring #HigherEducation

In the March 2026 CRI AI Literacy Newsletter, we explore a powerful question for leaders, educators, and professionals navigating rapid technological change: How do we prepare people to learn, adapt, and lead in an AI-shaped world? Our latest issue, “Applying Dr. Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset to the Attitude-First Learning (AFL) Model,” examines how the psychology of a Growth Mindset provides the foundation for the first and most critical stage of the AFL Model—Attitude. While organizations continue investing in AI tools and technical training, transformation ultimately depends on whether individuals: ✔ Embrace challenges as opportunities to learn ✔ Take ownership of their development rather than waiting for instruction ✔ Build resilience through experimentation, feedback, and iteration By integrating Dr. Dweck’s research on Growth Mindset with the Attitude-First Learning (AFL) Model, this issue shows how mindset becomes the catalyst that enables skills, knowledge, judgment, and ultimately transformation—across business, management, and higher education. Before we scale technology, we must first scale the attitudes that allow people to use it wisely. #AFLModel #GrowthMindset #AILiteracy #LeadershipDevelopment #FutureOfWork #OrganizationalLearning #ChangeManagement #HumanCenteredLeadership

𝗗𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗜𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 — 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 Doing a PhD is challenging in ways most people don’t expect. It stretches your thinking, patience, confidence, and resilience — often all at once. This booklet from The University of Manchester, inspired by one of the most widely read PhD guides, offers grounded and practical insight into what the doctoral journey really involves. 1. Why This Guide Matters: A PhD is not just about producing research outputs. It is about learning how to survive uncertainty, manage pressure, and grow intellectually and personally. This resource helps normalize struggles that many doctoral researchers silently face. 2. Common Challenges PhD Students Encounter : • Navigating long periods of uncertainty and self-doubt • Managing isolation and lack of structure • Balancing productivity with mental well-being • Handling feedback, rejection, and slow progress • Maintaining motivation over multiple years Recognizing these challenges early helps you respond to them constructively instead of internalizing them as failure. 3. The Value of Shared Experience : Sometimes the most powerful support doesn’t come from another paper or tool — it comes from knowing that others are facing the same struggles. Sharing experiences reduces isolation and builds perspective. 4. A Reminder for Anyone on the Journey : Struggle during a PhD is not a sign that you don’t belong. It’s often a sign that you’re doing something genuinely demanding. Support, reflection, and community matter just as much as technical skill. 5. Question to Reflect On : What do you think is the biggest challenge of doing a PhD — intellectually, emotionally, or practically? Your answer may help someone else feel less alone. My journey has never followed a straight line — and that is precisely what shaped me as a researcher today. When I first shared reflections on embracing a non-linear career path, I saw it as a story of transitions across countries, disciplines, and roles. Looking back now, I see something deeper: a systems journey that naturally led me into the intersecting fields of AI literacy, sustainability, and leadership. From my early academic training in economics and management, to professional experience in management, administration, and community engagement in Canada, to development research and institutional leadership in Bangladesh, and later postgraduate study and SDG-focused initiatives at UNSW — each chapter added a layer of perspective rather than replacing the previous one. These experiences now converge in my work as: 🔹 Executive Director & CEO, Center for Research Initiatives (CRI), where I lead programs advancing sustainable development and responsible technology adoption. 🔹 Research contributor on Generative AI in higher education, examining how AI can support culturally responsive teaching and learning. 🔹 Author of the CRI AI Literacy Newsletter, developing the Attitude-Driven AI Literacy (ADAIL) Model to help individuals build ethical, human-centered AI competencies. 🔹 Editor of CRI Interconnected, where I explore sustainability through systems thinking and leadership frameworks. What once looked like a fragmented path — spanning management, development economics, student leadership, research coordination, and cross-cultural education — has become an integrated research lens: ➡️ Understanding AI not only as a tool, but as a socio-technical system. ➡️ Viewing sustainability not only as an environmental goal, but as an organizational and educational transformation challenge. ➡️ Framing leadership as the bridge that aligns technology, ethics, and long-term societal outcomes. A non-linear career does not dilute expertise; it can expand the system boundaries through which we understand complex global problems. As AI reshapes education and economies, we need interdisciplinary thinkers who can connect development, technology, and human capability. I am grateful that my unconventional journey positioned me to contribute to this space. I look forward to continuing collaborations with scholars, educators, and practitioners working at the nexus of AI literacy, sustainability, and responsible innovation. #LinkedInNewsAustralia #LinkedInNews #NonLinearCareers #AILiteracy #Sustainability #SystemsThinking #ResponsibleAI #Leadership #SDGs #HigherEducation #ResearchJourney

Most students say they’re doing “quantitative research.” But when you ask what that actually means… the answer gets vague. Quantitative research is simple in principle: It uses numerical data to identify patterns, test hypotheses, and make predictions. But strong quantitative research is not just “running SPSS.” Here’s what defines it: ✔️ Measurable variables ✔️ Structured design ✔️ Hypothesis testing ✔️ Statistical analysis ✔️ Instruments like surveys or experiments There are three main types you should clearly distinguish: Descriptive Describes characteristics of a population. What is happening? Correlational Examines relationships between variables. Are X and Y associated? Experimental Tests cause and effect under controlled conditions. Does X actually cause Y? And here’s something many overlook: Your data type determines your analysis. Nominal → categories without order Ordinal → ordered categories Interval → numerical, no true zero Ratio → numerical with true zero If you don’t understand your data level, you’ll choose the wrong statistical test. A simple workflow I recommend: 1️⃣ Identify the problem 2️⃣ Formulate hypotheses 3️⃣ Design the method 4️⃣ Collect data 5️⃣ Analyze appropriately Quantitative research looks objective. But rigor depends on design quality, sampling logic, and assumption checks. Be honest: Do you struggle more with choosing the right statistical test or designing the study correctly from the start?
