🚀 Thrilled to share the latest episode of Mile 40 Podcast with Cyrus Massoumi a prominent Founder and CEO spanning healthcare and tech. Cyrus’s journey from failed startups to building one of the most recognized tele-health companies in the US is filled with valuable lessons for any entrepreneur or professional in the healthcare and tech space. Here are my top 3 takeaways: ⭕ Persistence is Power: Cyrus shared candidly about facing rejection—whether it was from schools, venture capitalists, or even his early attempts at starting a company. What made the difference? Relentless persistence and the willingness to keep iterating, learning, and applying those hard-earned lessons to future ventures. ⭕ Build Your Own Formula for Success: Advice from a family friend early on left an impact: there’s no universal formula for business success—each of us must discover our own by understanding our strengths, weaknesses, and unique context. Cyrus’s formula? Great people, hard work, focus, and—most importantly—enough time to figure things out. ⭕ Mission Drives Enduring Impact: While health tech might seem like just another growing sector, Cyrus’s commitment to improving healthcare access for everyone comes from a deep-rooted mission. He’s striving not just for business success, but to solve America’s healthcare access crisis—building models to make care affordable and available to all, even those without insurance. If you’re contemplating a leap into entrepreneurship, struggling with setbacks, or passionate about making change, give this episode a listen. Cyrus’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and mission-driven innovation. I was recently a guest on the E-Coffee with Experts podcast, and the host asked me to share my story: How I got started, why I launched Roadmap, and what drives me to keep going. Here’s the short version: Back in the late 90s, I was a dot-com kid helping scale a startup across 11 countries. I was based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and it felt like the future had arrived. That company became my unpaid MBA. It taught me more about business, growth, and failure than any classroom ever could. When the dot-com crash hit, I pivoted. I became an executive in privately owned, mid-sized companies and stayed on that path for over 20 years. But I always had the itch to build something again. Eventually, I turned down a CEO offer. Not because I didn’t want the challenge, but because I realized I wanted to build something of my own. The more I looked at the data, the more clear it became: 📊 99.6% of Canadian businesses are small to medium enterprises 📊 SMEs account for 90% of private employment This is the heartbeat of our economy. So I made a decision. I brought together a few existing agencies I had been part of, aligned them under one vision, and launched Roadmap Agency. Roadmap exists to help SMEs succeed at go-to-market. 🎙️ Throwback Episode: Joel Benge on Turning Marketing Funnels into Human Conversations 💡 Most founders think about their marketing funnel like a pipeline: awareness at the top, conversions at the bottom. But Joel Benge reframed it on Designing Successful Startups. A funnel isn’t a mechanical system. It’s a human process. Attention is emotional. You grab it with a spark that makes someone care. Information is logical. You give just enough for the next step, not everything at once. Credibility is trust. It’s the gut-level belief that you can deliver. When you balance heart, head, and gut, you don’t just move someone down a funnel. You build a relationship. And when founders forget this, they end up overwhelming their audience with features, numbers, and jargon, and losing them in the process. Joel’s insight is simple but powerful. A marketing funnel isn’t about pushing people through stages. It’s about engaging them the way human beings actually make decisions. 🎧 Catch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eAZFFN8A Or listen or watch on your favorite platform: ▶️ YouTube: https://lnkd.in/ezXYPzqV 🎧 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eWgYJwej 🍏 Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/eEGFTDzi 💬 We are always looking for experienced startup founders to join us on the podcast. It's Friday, so either you know what that means or you're one of the 69.2296 million people who aren't listeners: another episode of The Startup Breakdown Podcast has landed. In episode 38, "Remember The Source, Consider The Motive", Caroline Sumners and I had a very jolly chat about what to do when an ongoing client ghosts you and doesn't pay you, and the joys that brings to the easy peasy life of a freelancer... We also answered some listener questions, including an excellent one about how someone can know if they are making the right decisions in their business when the whole world feels so uncertain right now. And, yeah, I talked about running again because I can't pass on an opportunity to be delightfully insufferable. Soz. --- Startup Breakdown is the podcast where we break down success whilst breaking through our breakdowns. ✔️ If you're building a startup or scale up and want clear, no-nonsense, expert advice on how to grow your business without breaking the bank, this podcast is for you. ✔️ If you're having an emotional breakdown on the daily and want to know you're not alone in that, this podcast is for you. ✔️ If you're sick of people flaking on paying their contractors, this podcast is for you.
