Have you ever had anyone tell you to be more "solution-oriented"? It's a phrase I hear all the time and, like many of life's delights, it's great, but also terrible in an equal measure. A lot of the companies we work with here at Pay As You Go COO come to us because they're struggling to find Product-Market Fit and, honestly, it's often precisely because they've spent too long being solution-oriented. Solution-orientation is great when you've got a fully identified and broken down problem statement to be addressing. Until that point, you're going to want to be VERY problem-oriented. Product-Market Fit doesn't come from building a great product. It comes from finding a great problem to solve. If you build something that's great but that no-one cares about, you don't have a product, you have a project. And projects can be fun, but they're not inherently lucrative. If you can find a problem that's robust - i.e. that shows up in the lives of your customers in a way that's significant enough for them to pay you an amount of money to fix it that has potential for a healthy profit margin - you're on the way to finding Product-Market Fit way before you've even started developing your solution.
