The concept was simple: Associates and leaders wrote small notes of affirmation to one another, recognizing effort, teamwork, attitude and leadership. Each recipient received a copy while another was proudly displayed in our main hallway for everyone to see. In a fast-paced, results-driven warehouse environment, it's easy to move from task to task. Initiatives like this remind us that behind every pallet moved and truck loaded is a person who deserves recognition. Culture isn't built in big speeches, it's built in small and consistent moments of appreciation. At the India AI Impact Expo 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined what he described as a “#MANAV vision” for AI, stating: “AI must be based on moral and ethical systems, accountable governance… lawful and verifiable AI.” Those words — lawful and verifiable — are strategically important. Because globally, AI governance is no longer theoretical. The European Union AI Act has introduced risk-tier classifications and compliance obligations for high-impact AI systems. In the United States, the Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence reinforces safety standards and transparency requirements. Regulatory direction is becoming clearer. And enterprise adoption is deepening. AI systems are moving from assistive tools to decision infrastructure — influencing credit approvals, pricing strategies, operational workflows, and real-time execution layers. Once AI begins acting, it becomes part of core infrastructure. Infrastructure must be auditable. A recent McKinsey global survey highlights a notable imbalance: AI adoption is scaling rapidly, yet governance maturity remains uneven across organizations. The implication is not to slow innovation. It is to align deployment with accountability. For CIOs and boards, the strategic question is shifting: Are we experimenting with AI? Or are we building accountable AI architecture designed to withstand scrutiny? In regulated markets, trust becomes competitive advantage. In capital markets, predictability attracts investment. The organizations — and nations — that embed governance into AI engineering early will scale with confidence. Those that treat accountability as an afterthought may find friction later. Strategic foresight in AI is not about building the fastest systems. They are clients of one of the world’s leading consulting firms, who gathered to explore what’s next for business and technology. What struck me most was his Ian's idea of the #CreativeGeneralist. For so long, we’ve been taught that success comes from specialization, where you go to school, master your craft, and build a career around depth. But as Ian shared, AI is rewriting that model. AI doesn’t erase our expertise, it builds on it. It gives us access to new capabilities and breaks down the rigid job descriptions that keep us siloed. Suddenly, impact isn’t limited to your title or department. Everyone has the potential to be a #CreativeGeneralist, connecting ideas across boundaries and fueling the flow of work in new ways. That idea excites me deeply. Because it means your greatest advantage starts with who you already are. Your curiosity, creativity, and essence. Then they wonder why upgrades take 6 months and cost $400K. Vanilla isn't boring. Vanilla is maintainable. The companies that win long-term are the ones willing to change their process to fit the system. Not the other way around. What began as WISE (Women in IS) has now grown into a global community, expanding from the USA to India—reflecting the increasing impact of women in technology and leadership. It was great to see women leaders Melissa Thurber, PMP, Sue (Lower) Carenbauer & Alice F. from C&S Wholesale Grocers connected, shared experiences, and built stronger relationship with our female team members. The session encouraged open conversations, collaboration, and mutual learning. A key message that stood out: “We don’t compete with each other—we complete each other.” The discussion also highlighted the importance of courage, empathy, resilience, supporting one another, and setting the right boundaries when needed. Use the green banner. Don't use the green banner. Be personal, but not too personal. Be direct, but not too direct. Maintain executive presence, but be authentic, as if those are somehow different things. I understand why people try to thread that needle. I’ve just never seen much value in being vague. So here is the simple version. I am in the market for a senior operating role. The environments where I do my best work are the ones where the business has outgrown the way it's being run. The work is real. The people are capable. But decisions are slower than they should be, ownership is not always clear, and the structure no longer fits the scale or complexity of the business. After 20 years running complex operations inside a $25B enterprise, most recently a $160M P&L across seven functions, I know this pattern well. Bringing shape to things that have gotten loose. Creating better operating rhythm. Using data to support decisions, not delay them. Building teams that can execute without losing trust, clarity, or accountability when things get hard.
