Steven Brown, PHR, SHRM-CP reposted thisSteven Brown, PHR, SHRM-CP reposted thisWrapped up a big one this week! Yoshinoya America is officially live with our first ever gift card program, offering both physical and digital gift cards powered by Heartland / Global Payments Inc. This project represents more than a new feature. It opens up a new revenue stream, strengthens our holiday readiness, and creates a seamless bridge to where we’re headed next... including a major mobile app upgrade that includes in-app gift card payments and stored value launching in H1 2026 as part of our digital ecosystem. I had the privilege of leading this implementation for Yoshinoya, and like any meaningful project, it took real collaboration to get it across the finish line. We navigated tight timelines, non-stop configuration hurdles with our in-store processor, and a ton of cross-functional coordination. Grateful for the partners who made this possible: On the Heartland / Global Pay Team: Genessa Prictor, Ian Skane, Asia Whitfield, Michael Austin, Tiffany Franks, Travis Mcmasters On the Yoshinoya Team: Jason Perovich, Nannette Richardson, Joon Lee Thank you all for the teamwork, patience, and shared commitment to delivering something that elevates the guest experience and sets up our digital future. Onward. 🚀

Steven Brown, PHR, SHRM-CP reposted thisSteven Brown, PHR, SHRM-CP reposted thisDon’t hire qualified people and then micromanage them into misery. Micromanagement is a symptom of a lack of trust and an anxious need to control. It’s also the quickest way to lose exceptional employees. Stop infantilizing and dictating. Treat employees like adults and let them work without feeling under the microscope.

My talk is called: “I Have Tattoos, a Foul Mouth & Can Still Lead HR.” Because somewhere along the way, we decided HR leaders needed to look, sound, and behave a certain way to be “professional.” I call bullshit! No corporate fluff. No hiding behind policy. No “HR voice.” Just real talk about leading people. Steven Brown, PHR, SHRM-CP reacted on thisSteven Brown, PHR, SHRM-CP reacted on thisHello everyone! It has certainly been a minute, and I wanted to make this post slightly more personal and relatable than the usual. I recently completed my Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) recertification with HRCI way ahead of schedule! It is an accomplishment in my career that I take very seriously. I ended up completing 76 recertification credits (…only 60 are required! LOL). I mention that because somewhere along the way, completing the requirement turned into something much bigger. With all of the advancements, technologies and innovations we are experiencing (not just in Human Resources, but everywhere we turn) I became hooked. I genuinely enjoyed the learning, exploring new ideas and challenging myself to understand things I probably would not have ventured into before. I even inspired a few folks to take the leap and pursue their own certifications, which made the experience that much more rewarding. That curiosity didn’t stop with HR either. I continued learning and training around emerging technologies and innovations and, funny enough, even started incorporating some of that knowledge into my other passions. And for those of you who know me, you know fitness and wellness are definitely among them. While fitness isn’t my profession, I do my best to help, encourage and inspire where I can, when I can. Losing over 70lbs felt like it tho! LOL. I am also a firm believer that even as leaders, people should know a little about who we are as human beings, not just our titles, credentials or our permanently activated “work mode.” LOL. The second image is a little glimpse into some of what I have been up to throughout this year. I will say this, outdoor running and 36 mile weekends were NOT part of the plan 😂 I wasn’t even a fan of outdoor running until recently! But personal records come in many forms, and these are some I am definitely proud of. And as my favorite vocalist and artist says: “Mucho gimnasio, pero (TRABAJO) el cerebro (MUCHO) también.” — Shakira That line feels particularly appropriate these days 😂 2026 has been a year of tremendous change, growth, development and evolution for me. Also professionally, personally and in ways I probably couldn’t have predicted when the year began. It has challenged some of my perspectives, given me new ones, pushed me outside of what was familiar and reminded me that development doesn’t always happen according to the plan we originally had for ourselves. Sometimes you grow professionally. Sometimes personally. Sometimes physically. And sometimes all of it happens at once. I am certainly not done. Maybe the GPHR is next. Maybe I’ll finally do that Spartan Race. …Maybe. 😂 More to come. But for now, I simply wanted to say “Hi!” again, share a little of what I’ve been up to, and hope everyone is doing well!

The “AI Audit” HR Leaders Should Run This Month AI is already making (or influencing) HR decisions inside tools you may not even label as “AI”—ATS screening, candidate ranking, scheduling optimization, performance prompts, even “smart” policy and coaching templates. For California employers, the risk isn’t just using AI. It’s using AI without a defensible process. Here’s a quick AI-in-HR audit we recommend: Where is AI influencing decisions? (hiring, scheduling, performance, investigations) Can you explain the decision in plain English? (not “the system scored them lower”) Is your documentation consistent across managers? Do you have human review + escalation rules? Are you controlling what managers paste into AI tools? (privacy + accuracy + tone) If you can’t confidently answer these, you don’t have an “AI problem.” You have a workflow problem—and that’s what claims are built on. Which area worries you most right now: hiring, scheduling, performance, or investigations?
