(Learn more on the Microsoft blog: https://aka.ms/AAs91bn) As we roll this out, I wanted to get down some of the wider context behind what Microsoft is building. We’re living through a technological paradigm shift. In a few short years, our computers have learned to speak our languages, to see what we see and hear what we hear. Yet technology for its own sake counts for nothing. What matters is how it feels to people and how it impacts societies. It’s about how it changes lives, opens doors, expands minds, and relieves pressure. I think it’s important that in doing all of this, getting stuck right into the technical weeds, that we don’t lose sight, not just of what we are building, but why we are building it. At Microsoft AI, we are creating an AI companion for everyone. I truly believe we can create a calmer, more helpful and supportive era of technology, quite unlike anything we’ve seen before. Great technology experiences are about how you feel, not what’s under the hood. Copilot will be there for you, in your corner, by your side, and always strongly aligned with your interests. Some people worry that AI will diminish what makes us unique as humans. My life’s work has been to ensure it does precisely the opposite. We choose what we create. This is something we must do together. Our task is to ensure it always enriches people’s lives and strengthens our bonds with others, whilst supporting our uniqueness and endlessly complex humanity. This is the beginning of a fundamental shift in what’s possible for all of us. It’s a long journey that will take years. With our latest updates to Copilot, you are seeing only the first careful steps in this direction. Patience and care with our deployments are at the very foundation of our approach. My commitment is to be accountable at every stage, to work with you and listen to you. Respect and deep compassion for our users and for society is the core purpose behind everything we do. First off, switching my heart rate monitor to my arm. Second, properly programming the GPS watch to track all the data I need while on the road. And of course shoes. I’m a strong believer in super shoes for racing, but different runners respond to different types in different ways. I want them to be light, provide good ankle stability and cushioning, but not too high a heel lift. But that’s me! Wear them but vary them and test them.

I’m excited to share that I’m starting a new role at Microsoft, leading a team building personal assistants for Microsoft 365 customers. My goal is to help usher in a new generation of proactive assistants, ones that lighten your load by taking on tasks end-to-end, and that can also step in proactively when they can help. As part of this mission, I’ll be partnering with the OpenClaw + M365 community to bring the energy of this work to our customers. We’ve already hit the ground running with a fully integrated Teams plugin for OpenClaw, and I can’t wait to help usher in the era of personal agents at work. On a personal note, leaving the Word team is genuinely bittersweet. Thank you for trusting me, pushing me, and teaching me so much, your craftsmanship, care for customers, and high standards are what make Word enduring. I’ll be cheering you on from my new seat, and I hope we keep building together as the next chapter of Word, and Office, evolves toward an agentic future. It was possible because of three things: 1) Great people 2) AI coding tools 3) An API-first backend architecture Here's how it began: Last month we had launched our Stripe and Intuit QuickBooks integrations and I began to ponder how we could make our product even more suitable for those audiences. That led to me dictating a Google Doc about what kind of things I'd want to see, such as simplifying some of the UI, changing pipeline defaults based on what type of company you are, supporting international currency and languages and more. Then I fed that doc into Lovable. In a few hours, I had all the core UI elements working as I wanted, and within a week I had fleshed out all the features. Dan Chiao, my VP of Engineering and Co-Founder, then started wiring up to our back end with Anthropic's Claude Code. Like most development projects, the first 90% went quickly, and the last 10% took the the most time. But it's still remarkable that we were able to completely change the look and feel from what's in my head to what you can use today in under three weeks, and ship new functionality to boot. For us at Coffee, this combination of Lovable for the front end and Claude Code for the back end seems to be working very well and allows us to accelerate our already fast development cycle even more. I have never felt a more direct path from what's in my head to what I see on screen. None of this would have been possible even a few months ago. P.S. I also redid the entire website in that time myself. 🤪

Steven Kaplan liked thisSteven Kaplan liked thisLast night I was able to join the NYC health tech community for a panel with four builders who are actively reshaping what AI in healthcare looks like in practice. A few statements that stuck with me: Rishi Khakhkhar and Counsel Health are already driving 2–3x provider efficiency gains with AI. Not projected. Happening now. Vichar Shroff and Raihan Faroqui, MD, and Confido Health measure AI value in hours of labor saved. Their agents are delivering 300–500 hours of productivity per customer, the equivalent of 4–5 FTEs. Richard Wang and Amigo make their AI agents go through a simulated digital residency to customize and maximize reps before deployment. Usama Syed, MD and FutureClinic emphasize that no matter how advanced the workflow, the doctor stays in the loop. By design. These teams also said they can feel the improvement in their products each time the foundational models advance. Steven Kaplan reacted on thisSteven Kaplan reacted on thisTBPN produces 15+ hours of live content per week with 1/10th the number of employees and 1/50th of the budget of your average late night TV show. We've fully funded our own show via ad sales with 29 incredible sponsors who committed to be with us for an entire year, which gives us predictable revenue for the year and the ability to invest in the show, like moving into our Ultradome studio. We structure our sponsorships the way F1 teams do where companies commit for the season, we go above and beyond to deliver by taking them wherever we go, and everyone wins. One issue is that TV burns through a massive headcount to produce programming. When you're not thinking about efficiency, it's easy to add an extra sound guy or a lighting tech for tiny gaps in workflow. But most of that is unnecessary overhead. TBPN runs a lot more efficiently than these large corporate operations, yet we're able to put out as much or more live content per week. We're a two-pizza team, we can all sit at one table for breakfast. Everyone moves fast, gives it their all, and holds a vital role that actually matters to the end product. It's important to strike that balance between having enough staff to run a smooth operation without overdoing it to the point of idle roles. That's where traditional media collapses under its own weight. We're obviously bullish on highly produced live streams as the future of media, and we're looking forward to seeing what others build in this category.
