Hello India! I’m back with our virtual Gi Group Holding tour, our interview series where I sit down with our country experts to deep-dive local and global labour market trends. This time, I headed to Delhi to chat with our India Country Manager, the wonderful Sonal Arora. India is a hugely important market - our growth has been outstanding thanks in no small part to Sonal’s exceptional leadership, with our Gi Group staffing forming our core business. Here’s our conversation👇 🗣 Which trend will impact the future of work the most in the next 5 years? Sonal: In India, the rise of AI-driven automation and digital transformation will fundamentally reshape job roles across sectors - from manufacturing and BFSI to IT and services. By 2030, nearly 60% of the Indian workforce will require reskilling. Stefano: The technological revolution is one of the major trends shaping the future of work, and at Gi Group Holding our approach and our recommendation to both clients and candidates is to stay ahead of the curve. This means fully embracing new tools rather than fearing them and supporting people in developing the skills and technical capabilities they need to thrive. 🗣 What are the key challenges talent is facing in this context?    Sonal: The widening skill–job gap. While India produces over 12 million graduates annually, a significant share is underemployed as industries evolve faster than CVs. Emerging sectors like EV, renewable energy, and digital services are facing acute shortages of job-ready talent. Stefano: To be truly job-ready, technical skills are important, but they’re not enough. Talent at every level need a new mindset based on curiosity, continuous learning, and openness to new ways of working. These soft skills are now essential, both when hiring new people and when developing the employees already within an organisation. 🗣 What role can agencies play in addressing talent mismatch and skill shortages? Sonal: When exact skill matches aren’t available, we work with clients to identify candidates with strong adjacent skills. We also support clients and candidates with internal mobility across India. The Government is encouraging industries to take on more apprentices to help build a stronger, more skilled workforce and we are actively participating in these efforts under NAPS/NATS framework.   Stefano: Bridging the skill-job gap requires collective investment from industry, academia, and government to create a truly future-ready and inclusive workforce. Early workforce outlook reports show an 11% increase in hiring intent for 2026, marking one of the strongest forward-looking sentiments seen in the past few years. The workforce landscape is shifting decisively, and the latest labour outlook reports point to an 11% increase in hiring intent for 2026. According to India Skills Report 2026 (by ETS, CII, AICTE, AIU): employability has risen to 56.35% (from 54.81% last year). For the staffing and HR services industry, this is more than a recovery indicator — it’s a clear call to gear up for accelerated talent demand. After several quarters of cautious hiring and mandate rationalisation, organisations are re-opening pipelines, rebuilding capability structures, and preparing for growth.
