𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆. 𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆. This one taught me more than I expected. And I wanted to share it because someone out there might need it today. I recently interviewed with Bank of America for a Front End Software Engineer role. Three rounds. All remote. A mix of DSA, system design, and front end depth. And I didn’t make it. But here’s the thing. Some interviews leave you with bruises, others leave you with clarity. This one did the second. Here’s what I learned, in a way that might help you too. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 ⭐ 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗵, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘅 You can know React, CSS, and JavaScript. But interviews like these go deeper. They test how you think about rendering big datasets. How you approach real time updates. How you explain trade offs without hiding behind frameworks. If you want to grow in front end roles, build the habit of thinking beyond components and start thinking in terms of systems. ⭐ 𝗗𝗦𝗔 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 Even though the job is UI heavy, you will still get asked to implement algorithms. Binary search. Stacks. Array manipulation. Nothing too fancy, but you are expected to be quick and clean. Practice enough to stay sharp, not perfect. ⭐ 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 During the system design round, I noticed something. Whenever I walked the interviewer through why I chose an approach, the conversation opened up. Whenever I jumped straight into the how, the energy dipped. Good interviews aren’t about showing off. They’re about showing clarity. ⭐ 𝗛𝗥 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 “𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆” 𝗯𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁 They test your attitude, how you handle uncertainty, and how you talk about past experiences. These rounds matter more than we assume. Preparation here means reflecting on your journey, not memorizing scripts. ⭐ 𝗥𝗲𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 Sometimes they simply mean you’re growing. This interview reminded me of gaps I hadn’t looked at in a while. And I’m grateful for that push. Final Thoughts If you're preparing for front end interviews, try mixing system design with hands on coding. Treat HR rounds seriously. And most importantly, treat rejections as checkpoints, not dead ends. We are all learning. One interview at a time.
