Paul Gillin reposted thisPaul Gillin reposted thisThe “Agentic AI” Scam: Stop Buying Platforms Looking for a Problem I’m going to say the quiet part out loud: Most “agentic AI frameworks” being pushed by big consulting firms right now are solutions in search of a problem. Shiny brand. Slick logo. Buzzwords like “multi‑agent orchestration,” “digital workers,” “agentic operating model.” Same playbook every time: Firm walks in → leads with its branded framework → retrofits YOUR problems to THEIR platform → sells a massive “transformation.” 18 months later? You’ve spent 10x what a focused, problem‑driven solution would cost You’re getting maybe 20% of the promised value You’re stuck with an over‑engineered “agent platform” no one really needs That’s not innovation. That’s theater. Agentic AI isn’t the problem. The way it’s sold is. Agentic AI can be powerful for complex, exception‑heavy, cross‑domain work. But right now it’s being shoved into: Processes that need basic automation, not multi‑agent orchestration Functions with no clear ownership, KPIs, or change plan Architectures optimized for slideware, not for your teams and constraints Why? Because firms have sunk millions into branding their frameworks and must make them look indispensable. If you’re an enterprise leader, draw a line: When a firm leads with “Here’s our agentic AI framework,” push back. Make them answer: What are our top 5 problems? How would you solve them if your framework didn’t exist? Where does agentic AI clearly beat simpler options in $$, risk, and time? What’s the smallest thing we can do first to prove real value? If they can’t do that, they’re not advising you. They’re selling you inventory. To the consulting firms: you’re better than this. You know the right order: 1️⃣ Understand the client’s reality 2️⃣ Prioritize the right problems 3️⃣ Design the simplest effective solution 4️⃣ THEN decide if agents belong Your framework is a tool, not the product. Act like it.The Agentic AI Scam: How Branded Frameworks Turn Smart Consulting into Expensive TheaterThe Agentic AI Scam: How Branded Frameworks Turn Smart Consulting into Expensive TheaterDavid Linthicum

Paul Gillin shared thisHere's one of those great ideas that seems drop-dead obvious. Software terms & conditions change all the time, and sometimes those changes can have significant impacts. But since no one ever reads T&C contracts, we don't know what those impacts are. A Chicago-based law firm decided to apply large language models to the task. It's built a service that monitors all kinds of online legal agreements and notifies you in plain English when something has changed and what it means. If you need advice on how to respond, they funnel you to a human lawyer, creating new revenue streams for their colleagues. Paul Gillin shared thisAs a professional writer, I’ve sought every opportunity to make the task easier. Twenty years ago, I purchased my first copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, the voice transcription software now owned by Nuance Communications, not Microsoft. It’s expensive, but worth every penny. Nothing, however, has approached the productivity-enhancing benefits of the suite of mostly free AI tools I now use. They’ve transformed my daily work. First is transcription. I spend a lot of time in interviews, which can be intense and sometimes exhausting affairs. Taking notes manually makes it difficult to think ahead to the next question or contextualize a conversation. Three products have simplified this task. Fathom (fathom.ai) sits in the background and captures the video and audio content of conversations on popular videoconferencing platforms. Within seconds after finishing a call, I have a full, time-stamped transcript. Fathom’s accuracy has improved noticeably in the three years I’ve been using it. While it still stumbles over heavily accented speech and proper nouns, those are manageable flaws. Fathom maintains an archive of the more than 600 interviews I have conducted with it over the past three years. I don't know how it gives away all this capacity and functionality, but I hope the developers never get wise to the value. There are plenty of other options in this space, and they’re all pretty good from my limited experience. For calls that block notetakers, such as most press briefings TechSmith’s SnagIt (techsmith.com/snagit) is an excellent screen recorder. It’s fast to set up and usually makes its recordings available within seconds. It’s also quick to export to MP4 format, which is where my third favorite tool comes in. Whisper (openai.com/index/whisper/) is OpenAI’s automatic speech recognition system that the company claims was trained on 680,000 hours of audio data. It produces a nearly perfect transcript. Unlike Google Docs Voice Typing and Microsoft Word Dictate, which struggle with proper nouns and mangle product names, Whisper handles even obscure technical terms with ease. Setting up whisper requires installing several other open-source packages; however, helpful video tutorials are available. Whisper also runs slowly on systems without a GPU, taking about 15 minutes to decode an hour-long conversation. It can struggle to distinguish between multiple speakers in a conversation, so manual cleanup is often needed. Still, the trade-offs are worth it for the accuracy of the transcript. These tools easily save me five hours a week. More importantly, they capture conversations exactly, nearly eliminating the risk of transcription error. Next, I’ll look at how generative AI has boosted my productivity by about 30%, and how I battle the urge to let it do too much.

In a recent interview with CNBC, our CISO, Alfredo Hickman, explains why securing AI is like trying to hit a moving target. As autonomous AI agents grow more complex, they become harder to fully understand, predict, and control. The result? Expanding attack surfaces, unpredictable behavior, and new pathways for data exposure. Thank you Barbara Booth for speaking with us about why the biggest risk agents present is not their autonomy, but the complexity of the access and permissions they are given without teams fully understanding the repercussions. https://lnkd.in/dRW-qtkU #AI #Innovation #Cybersecurity #CNBC #FutureOfWork #RiskManagement #TechLeadership

Paul Gillin liked thisPaul Gillin liked thisWhen a layoff becomes a strategic turning point. In a year when many professionals have been forced to rethink what comes next, Business Insider featured my story about navigating a tech layoff and choosing a different path. After decades working across technology, marketing, and sales enablement, I chose to treat the layoff as a strategic inflection point rather than simply a setback. I stepped back and evaluated: • Financial readiness • Long-term sustainability • Personal priorities That reflection led to a deliberate decision to retire from corporate employment and build my next chapter in France. Professional identity doesn’t have to be static. Sometimes evolution means stepping away with intention. I’ve shared the article in the comments for anyone navigating their own transition.

Over at Redmondmag, we've been thinking a lot about the security blind spots in AI-driven, no-code development, especially with how fast tools like Power Platform are spreading across enterprises. In the latest Cybersecurity Elevator Pitch video, Amichai Shulman, CTO of Nokod Security, gets to the root of the problem: "There's this notion of, 'Let's connect another database and another SharePoint list and the AI would probably be able to make something good out of it.' Well, the chances that hackers exploiting your agents would make a better use of it are far higher than your AI agent making something good with it." If your org uses Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio or Power BI, this is 10 minutes well-spent. Watch it and think about who's really securing those flows. https://lnkd.in/gwYd-m2H
