Maria T. Rivera, M.A.Ed., CSM shared thisInspiring keynote on Day 2 of the 2026 ATD International Conference! I enjoyed hearing Zack Kass share a thought-provoking and positive vision for the future of AI. It was exciting to hear his perspective on how AI can unlock innovation, expand opportunity, and enhance human potential across industries, organizations, and careers. His message was also a reminder to consider how we can use AI to improve our work, our lives, and the future we are building. A few takeaways: • “Optimism is not naive.” I loved this message as a call to action to embrace possibility and help shape a future where technology supports human potential. - Study what you love. - Learn how to Learn. - Soft skills matter more than ever, including curiosity, courage, humor, empathy, wisdom, and morality. - "Go Outside"/"Be in Nature". Good to also hear the inspiration for publishing "The Next Renaissance: AI and the Expansion of Human Potential", which I look forward to reading. Thanks also to Garima Gupta, Morgean Hirt, ICE-CCP, Bianca Baumann, and 🌀Mike Taylor for your informative and engaging presentations today! #ATD2026 #LearningandDevelopment#Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence#FutureofWork

Maria T. Rivera, M.A.Ed., CSM liked thisMaria T. Rivera, M.A.Ed., CSM liked thisSchool libraries are so much more than places to check out books. They are learning hubs that help students develop the skills, mindsets, and experiences they need to thrive both in school and beyond it. I love how this visual connects school library programs directly to the competencies found in the New York State Portrait of a Graduate, from critical thinking and communication to creativity, inquiry, digital citizenship, collaboration, and future readiness. While this framework is rooted in New York State, the message extends far beyond NY. Strong school library programs support the kinds of learning all students need in today’s world. School librarians help students learn how to research, question information, think critically, create, collaborate, communicate, and engage thoughtfully in digital spaces. They create opportunities for exploration, innovation, student voice, and authentic learning experiences that often reach across every subject area. As conversations continue about the future of education, AI, digital literacy, and workforce readiness, school libraries deserve to be recognized as essential spaces for learning, connection, and growth. #SchoolLibraries #FutureReady #PortraitOfAGraduate #DigitalLiteracy #AILiteracy #LibraryLeadership #SchoolLibrarians #Education #EdTech #NYSCATE

What are the most pressing data privacy concerns related to AI in education today? Ensure that the apps and resources used are not sharing student data with outside companies. Participate in a data privacy alliance or have agreements in place to prevent unauthorized data sharing. Tools should align with FERPA, and awareness of which tools require accounts is crucial to avoid putting student PII at risk. Always avoid sharing student names with AI tools and only use district-approved applications. #DataPrivacy #AIinEducation #EdTech #FERPA #StudentData

As K–12 schools plan for 2026, educational technology trends are converging around more intentional, impact-oriented approaches to digital tools and systems. Blended and hybrid learning models are getting renewed focus as districts seek to combine the best elements of in-person and online instruction while maintaining engagement and equity. District leaders are also emphasizing data-informed strategies to better understand student needs and align technology with instructional goals. Other emerging patterns include scalable professional learning platforms designed to support teacher growth without adding workload, and a growing interest in how AI tools can be integrated thoughtfully into classroom workflows and administrative tasks. Equity considerations remain paramount, as schools work to ensure technology investments benefit all students and do not widen gaps in access or outcomes. Taken together, these trends suggest a shift from technology for its own sake toward thoughtful, research-aligned integration that enhances teaching, learning, and learner support systems across diverse contexts.
