It was an honor to share the stage with OpenAI’s Nate Gross, MD to talk about the transformative impact AI can have not only on health networks and clinicians, but also patients. We brought this to life by showcasing the new ChatGPT-like conversational experiences coming to the Oracle Health Patient Portal. Soon patients will be able to get simplified summaries of information in their medical record and be able to ask questions, like “what was the result of my recent cholesterol test?” This is just one of the many ways we are employing AI to improve healthcare for everyone. https://lnkd.in/eqNSW_sE #ohlssummit

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie announced that generative artificial intelligence will be available to 30,000 workers across the city government. The city will use Microsoft Copilot for employees like nurses and social workers to improve city services. City hall said the move will make San Francisco one of the world's largest local governments to leverage AI. The real reward of working in technology is seeing our work become meaningful change for patients and providers. Our new partnership with Sutter Health, serving 3.5 million patients a year, is a step toward that future. After years in startups, consulting, and services, I’ve become convinced the most reliable results come from owning profitable local businesses with pricing power, defensibility, and operating discipline, not chasing theoretical upside. I'm focused on this full-time now. The model is intentionally boring: pricing discipline, people systems, operating cadence, and execution consistency. Early lesson from the field: nothing “strategic” breaks first, it’s touchbacks, follow-ups, and handoffs. Small execution misses compound fast when crews, trucks, and customers are already on the calendar. I’ll share a few notes along the way from inside the work.

As we celebrate APIHM, let’s listen to the voices of the Gameheads Hawai‘i students.   A few years ago, Lili’uokalani Trust approached Gameheads with a vision to bring their program to Hawai‘i, to teach video game design, development, DevOps, and mixed media to low-income students and Native Hawaiian youth, to carry on the legacy of Queen Liliʻuokalani (Hawai‘i’s only reigning queen) and help Hawaiian children realize their greatest potential. Today, their vision has become a reality, and now Gameheads and Liliʻuokalani Trust, are working together with students on educational development, workforce training, STEAM learning, college prep, and social & emotional growth. This gives Native Hawaiian students skills to thrive and succeed in tech and video game industries . . . a career path where they could build a meaningful future without having to leave their native lands.   “Representation is powerful. It tells us that we belong. As a Native Hawaiian, I rarely saw people who looked like me in games or in the industry behind them. That’s why mentoring with Gameheads Hawai‘i means so much to me. Finally had time this weekend to dig into "Aligning for Impact: A Shared Definition and Multi-Stakeholder Insights" on BHI in California from Kristina M. and the outstanding California Quality Collaborative team. It was a privilege to contribute to this work on behalf of Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute. This brief clearly reflects what many of us see across the states where we work: • Definitions drive payment and scale. Without a shared definition of behavioral health integration, reimbursement, contracting, and data reporting remain inconsistent. • Multi-stakeholder alignment is the implementation strategy. Convening payers, providers, and purchasers is essential to sustainable financing and system transformation. • Integration is essential, not optional. Embedding behavioral health in primary care improves access, outcomes, and whole-person care. When providers, plans, purchasers, and policymakers operate from a common understanding of BHI, we reduce fragmentation and accelerate adoption of evidence-based models like Collaborative Care. It was also encouraging to see additional “flavors” of integrated care highlighted, including Texas programs such as CPAN, BHIG, and TCHATT. These models show that while Collaborative Care is a strong foundation, states can also benefit from a portfolio approach that includes e-consultation, co-location, and pediatric access programs to meet diverse population needs. The future of AI isn't being built in a lab. It's being built in the network. Last week I attended Cisco's AI Infrastructure Executive Advisory Board in Palo Alto. This was an exclusive forum made up of AI infrastructure leaders and visionaries from retail, banking, healthcare, and manufacturing - all grappling with the same challenge: how to operationalize AI at scale. We joined Tom Gillis and Jeremy Foster (among others) from Cisco's leadership team for an honest conversation about what's working, what's not, and where enterprise AI is headed (Hint: it's moving to the edge). Companies are pouring resources into AI applications, but most are building on infrastructure that wasn't designed for what AI demands. Cisco's vision seems to be going beyond faster networks. They're building what they call a "neural spine" — intelligent infrastructure that anticipates demand, reroutes dynamically, and optimizes in real-time - with scalable network and security capabilities built into it from the ground up. Their new AI Canvas platform brings this to life, combining cross-domain telemetry with AI-powered execution across NetOps and SecOps. It's powered by the Cisco Deep Network Model, giving real-time visibility across the entire AI stack. (a prime example of a purpose-built LLM that's highly capable at a limited subset of tasks). The discussion that stayed with me? Sentient operations. When systems start making autonomous decisions on your behalf, how do they earn your trust? (The non-human identity problem). The gap between AI ambition and infrastructure reality is where most enterprise initiatives fail. You can have brilliant AI, but without robust, secure, intelligent infrastructure from data center to edge, you have nothing. The winners in enterprise AI won't be determined by who has the best models. They'll be determined by who built the right foundations first.
