For more than 60 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has recognized the critical role entrepreneurs and small business owners play in powering our economy and communities. As a Seattle area local, I’ve seen how small businesses and mission-driven organizations across King County operate at the heart of that impact doing more with less, every single day. King County Housing Authority (KCHA) serves tens of thousands of residents across Washington State with a small staff doing mission-critical work. AI stops being a buzzword the moment it shows up in the work that matters. "Because it's embedded in tools people already use, it met them where they were," says April Godwin, Microsoft 365 Solution Architect at @KCHA. "Without adding complexity." The businesses gaining ground right now are not the ones still debating whether to adopt AI. They are the ones that have already embedded it into how their teams work every day and are seeing the results. When AI is embedded directly into the apps you already use, proposals get drafted in minutes and meeting prep that used to consume a morning gets done before the first coffee. The result is not novelty. It reminded me of something simple but powerful: At the end of the day, what stays with us are the people. The conversations. The trust. The moments where someone believed in us, supported us, challenged us, or simply showed up when it mattered. So this thank-you note is for a few extraordinary people I crossed paths with along the journey at Microsoft and beyond. Mariana Simonetta — I still remember our partner and Teleperformance meetings and my first days at Microsoft back in 2001. Your drive, your energy, and your partnership left a mark on me from day one. And everything that came after thru this years … always a lift up connection!!!
