Jerich Beason reacted on thisI waited until April 1st to post this. No, it’s not a joke. Yes, I see the irony. I procrastinated on sharing this and now I have to deal with the consequences. You're welcome. The April Houston Cyber Peeps mixer is already at 50% capacity. Real. Not a bit. If you've been meaning to register, now is the time. We also have some genuinely fun prizes lined up this time the kind worth showing up for. Link attached. On a completely serious note…and I really do mean it this time I am looking to bring some fresh energy onto my team. Specifically, early career folks who are out here actually building with AI, not just watching the hype from the sidelines. I am talking about people who are running local models with Ollama or Open WebUI, building agents with LangChain, openclaw, CrewAI, or AutoGen, experimenting with fine tuning on Hugging Face, wiring up pipelines with LlamaIndex, or just obsessively tinkering with whatever drops next in the open source AI space. Bonus points for hands on time with Claude Code or Cowork, Cursor, or anything that has made your workflow meaningfully faster. Security background is a nice to have, not a requirement. What I actually care about is curiosity, initiative, and proof that you are already about this life. Here is my perspective..hiring managers will be waking up to these skillsets fast. The people who have been building in the open source AI trenches and are in the game right now are going to be very difficult to find in 12 months. I would rather find you now. It happens, even to the best security professionals. But how you respond as a manager matters more than the failure itself. Here's what experts recommend: 1. Understand the "why" before anything else. Most exams provide a domain-by-domain breakdown after the test. That report tells you exactly where the gaps are. Use it. 2. Don't overlook the emotional side. Failing a high-stakes exam is demoralizing. Acknowledging that and letting your team member know you still have confidence in them goes a long way. 3. Rebuild the study strategy. Was the prep approach the issue? Self-paced vs. live instruction, time to prepare, access to practice exams — these all matter more than people think. 4. Reframe the failure. Jerich Beason, CISO, failed his first Security+ exam. He later called it "the catapult to the success I've had since." The goal isn't to avoid failure. Jerich Beason posted thisAWS just introduced Security Hub Extended. It’s more important than it looks but read it carefully. This isn’t another integration announcement. AWS curated a 14 vendor enterprise security stack spanning identity, endpoint, runtime, data, browser, email, network, AI, and security operations all anchored in Security Hub. Fourteen. Not hundreds. For CISOs, that compresses your vetting surface area. No bloated marketplace. Just a short list worth studying. But let’s be clear about something first. AWS is not a neutral curator. They are deeply incentivized to make their platform feel secure enough to consume more of and with Wiz becoming less vendor agnostic with the move to Google, this was a must do move. Every vendor on this list was selected at least in part because they support that goal. Don’t confuse curation with charity. That said, the list still tells you something real. You’ve got proven mainstays like CrowdStrike , Okta , and SailPoint . Tools most enterprises already trust. And you’ve got strong up and comers that have been executing at a high level like Upwind Security , Cyera , and Noma Security Which is what makes Upwind such an interesting inclusion. They’re the only vendor on this list built natively for runtime cloud security on AWS itself. Not adapted. Not bolted on. Built for the platform. It almost feels like AWS is quietly saying..”this is the solution we’d trust our customers with to actually secure us.” Security Hub Extended signals that Security Hub is evolving into a security control plane and not just a dashboard. Single billing. Curated vendors. Integrated support. AWS is building a world where security is assembled inside the cloud platform and IMO this best of breed approach vs Microsoft forcing everything native is the way to go. Jerich Beason liked thisI just wrapped up the AECOM Elevate #leadership program, and it pushed me well beyond tactical leadership into how influence, strategy, and execution really come together. Over the past several months, I sharpened how I lead through complexity, navigate change, and communicate with confidence in high stakes conversations. The program strengthened my emotional intelligence, executive presence, systems thinking, and business judgment, not in theory, but through real decision making, peer challenge, and simulation based learning. What stood out most was learning how to align team execution with long term strategy while staying adaptable in fast moving environments. Elevate helped me think more like an enterprise leader, build stronger client and stakeholder relationships, and drive outcomes with clarity. I am walking away more confident in my ability to lead change, grow teams, and deliver impact where it matters most.
